This. My chainsaw, backpack blower and weedeater are all 20 plus years old and never had any problems. Got a pole saw a few years ago and it's badass too. If stihl makes it, and I need it, that's what I'm going with.

IMHO, the Stihl weedeaters are heavier than regular stuff with comparable power. If I was buying one now, I'd get an Echo or Redmax. If I had a good amount to weed eat, I'd get a Shindaiwa. You just can't beat the power those things have

Redmax, Shindaiwa, nor Echo make anything matching the power of what the top end pro Stihl trimmers develop. I'll put a FS240R against the best of any of those in terms of power and weight and win every time.

And refresh my memory on how many years you cut grass professionally?

You've also got to understand where the powerband for each one starts. Shindaiwa starts lowest

And refresh my memory how that matters when the Stihl makes more power than the Shindaiwa? And Echo, and Redmax. And weighs around the same or less. It's hard to make generalizations like that stick when one brand offers more models of pro-grade trimmers than most of the others mentioned combined.

And you've got dyno graphs to prove this where? Who's lugging a trimmer at low throttle to cut anything? I don't like fouled sparkplugs.

I love my Echo blowers (one is nearing its 15th season) and hedge trimmer but there are things other brands do better. Stihl does chainsaws and trimmers better than pretty much anyone else across the board.

Power to weight ratio. Stihl weed eaters are just heavier

This quote makes it blatantly obvious you've never cut grass professionally. You don't just walk around with the thing wide open all of the time. In fact, you rarely go wide open doing lawns

Don't need dyno graphs if you've used at least 10 from each of those brands like I have. Some manufacturers design engines to make power differently

Im not a professional but I cut grass with my buddy one day a week. He has all the brand weedeaters and my favorite is shinadawa. That thing will cut like nobodys business. I own an echo for personal use and it can't touch that thing.

Wrong. Just told you a FS240 Stihl weighs less than the top Shindaiwa model and within a few tenths of a pound of the others. And power to weight is even more of a problem for the others since the Stihl makes almost a full HP more.

Did I say that's what I did? No. Can tell you have a problem with reading what is actually written. My comment was about your low-end power argument which you have no proof of. Pretty sure a 2.3hp Stihl is going to make plenty of power anywhere in its RPM range compared to a 1.4 hp Shindaiwa, Redmax, or Echo. Just own up that you just don't like a brand and won't let facts get in the way.

Shindaiwa makes the best weedeater. Ask anyone who does it for a living. The only complaint I've ever heard is they are too cold natured and you waste time warming it up.

I spent 50+ hours a week on the back end of top end weedeaters for a while. A little bitty dinky looking shindaiwa will cut circles around a big heavy big block sounding stihl. When we pulled up to a yard the stihls and echos usually stayed on the trailer.

All but one of the chainsaws I've ever had was a stihl, that one didn't last long. They produce a lot of power, never underestimate the power of a Stihl 160, mine has been to hell and back and cut trees that it has no business cutting without blinking an eye.

Only problems are even with constant refill of chain oil, it tends to overheat, which makes starting kinda difficult

What does the temp of the chain have to do with starting?

quote:

Also, they won't tell you this, but the engine starter pull cord can fray and snap after a few uses

quote:

The cord is a legit problem and Stihl admits it.

ummm okay

Must be made of the same thing as trolling motor pull up rope.

I have an MS170 that I put twice as many hours on as my MS391. When I cut firewood I block the trunk with the 391 and it pretty much stays in the back of the truck after that.

When i shopped it, Stihl was not my first choice, but Kombi system won the contract. I have more hedges than any single house should ever have. And concrete-lots of concrete.

Certainly sounds like the "best".

Except that Stihl weighs less and is breezing through the tall stuff while the Shindaiwa owner is still pulling the cord or untangling the head that's wrapped in grass.

exactly. The best is always whatever anyone owns and these are pointless.

My dad had one similar to the 391 (can't remember the exact size)for years, and years, it finally died, he got a 440 magnum that goes through green pine like a hot knife through butter. He uses my 160 more.
