I've fished for bass since I was 5-6 years old, tournaments, bass clubs etc etc etc.

About the best I ever did was finishing third in the News-Star High School tournament a lot of years ago.

We always said one bass an hour was good, watching:

1 ON 1 LIVE - SWINDLE VS STRADER FEBRUARY 12th, 2018 - THE ...
1 ON 1 LIVE - GERALD SWINDLE VS. JORDAN LEE ON LAKE ...

MLF - they don't seem to catch more than that

Thoughts ?

That’s why I don’t freshwater fish. I have no patience. Props to the freshwater fisherman that gets it done

I think Jordan lee would smoke you on an average day if your only catching one per hour

Different fishing style when tournament fishing vs fun fishing. 5 bites is all you need when you are targeting big fish. If you are out there for fun and don’t care about the size you would choose a different approach and probably different bait and locations.

I guess it depends where you are fishing. I fish a handful of different bodies of water. I may consider one bass an hour a decent trip in one place, but not so good of a trip in another place. A few weeks ago, I went fishing with two buddies and we caught 4 bass total. I didn't consider that a terrible trip considering where we were fishing. Last weekend I brought another buddy to a different location and we caught 9 total. I considered that an average day in that particular location. I guess my point is, one bass an hour being good should be based mostly on your past experiences fishing that particular location.

I'm watching MLF today, these guys would love one bass an hour.

Most of them have less than 5 for the day so far

Same here. I moved to SE Louisiana in 2008 and I had never fished salt water before. I thought bass fishing was the best fishing. I found out I was wrong. I moved to the DFW area last year and I really miss fishing for reds, specs, and flounder.

It completely depends on the fishery, conditions and time of year. There are plenty places I fish if I don’t get twenty plus’s bits it’s a bad day.

I catch far more than one an hour fishing around verret and the spillway

However, I am fishing for fun/food and not size. So I am not throwing big presentation jig&pigs or big deep water cranks like the pros do

I am throwing texas rigged baby brush hogs and speed craws which produce far more bites

If you want lots of bites, hire a guide to take you fishing for sandbass later this Spring or early Summer. You will catch doubles on almost every cast and the fish are good to eat. I don’t know what part of DFW you live in but if Lavon is close to you, I used Carey Thorn and had a blast. Carey took his boat down to Houston to help with the flooding a couple of years ago and is a stand-up guy.

It’s crazy to be out on a lake in a kayak and have a huge school of sandbass tearing up the water all around you feasting on shad.

Lavon is about 10 miles from my house, I fish it quite often.

There's some large bass in that lake and the crappie are on fire right now
