Oklahoma Duck Hunting Trip

Grew up hunting Louisiana it used to be so good. Out of college enjoyed having property leased in Pecan Island and Grand Chenier. Started hunting Oklahoma in 2003 or so. Had to take a break with family commitments around 2013 and didn’t get to go for years until last year. It was amazing before I started going back. Limits every trip with Mallards Pintail and Wigeon. Has dropped off significantly, still good hunting and the landscape is tough to beat. Hearing the birds are still in Kansas and Missouri. Some good action in Arkansas.
Birds came off the Ft. Cobb lake and hit several expensive fields that no one hunts. The geese come regularly but the ducks hit the field after shooting hours are right at it. We found some local ponds that were pretty good. Crazy to see how things have changed when crops went from peanuts to cotton. Curious how the baws in Louisiana and Arkansas are doing.

I went to Cobb back in 2003 or 2004 with a classmate and 3 of his fiends. Hunt in the morning, drink beer and follow the ducks to see where they went in the afternoon. Freelance. Good times.

Heading to ponca city in two weeks to hunt ducks and geese. Great duck hunting in that state.

It was the best pound for pound during that era for sure iwantacooler. Loved doing that exact thing, land owners didnt expect a ton of money they just wanted the birds off. Good times for sure.

I live in Central Louisiana and am currently hunting in SE Arkansas and there are no birds around either area. I am officially a goose hunter now since ducks seem to be endangered.

Seems to be the case for most. Even in most of the good spots in Oklahoma where we hunted.

Been a weird year weather wise. Temperatures have been very mild for December and early January.

Just left Ponca city today, we killed a few but it wasn’t really good. They are expecting a good front and possibly snow next week. There is some birds in the area but right now the birds are stale, hopefully they get a new push of birds so y’all can really smack them. Good luck.

We only had one farmer ask us to pay, and it was $30/gun to hunt his field. It was a cool experience laying on the dry ground of a peanut field, covering up with burlap (layout blinds didn’t seem to be a thing then), and having ducks land all around you.

Or just maybe the ducks are sitting on thousands of acres which is owned by Ducks Unlimited which is basically a PETA organization

I appreciate that, man. We go up two times a year with Duck Creek Outfitters and its a good time whether we smash them or not. We did pretty well on our thanksgiving trip. We are going 16-18th so hopefully some show up by then.

Yeah I had friend in Dallas that was in a club there and they learned all the landowners information. Leased up certain spots and just learned the area. It still good just much harder to find birds. Leased property still an issue but could be worse.
