Finally got my Form 1 approved so was able to put together my .300blk SBR.

One of the reasons I even considered a 9mm carbine was for subsonic ammo, but today .300 is a much better choice for that IMO. I'm having a hard time mentally jumping through their asinine hoops for SBRs and suppressors, but If I decide to do it blk will be the choice.

Just made a decent ammo order. Plan on shooting 5 shot groups with all of them to see what my build shoots best and go from there. Primary use for this build is coyotes at night with the thermal but also will be used for pigs. I will see which ones are grouping the best and then make a decision on which to move forward with.

Hornady 50gr VMAX
Federal 53gr VMAX
Hornady 55gr VMAX
Barnes 55gr TSX
Hornady 55gr SP
Sierra 55gr HPBT
Barnes 62gr TSX
Frontier 68gr HPBT
SMK 69gr HPBT
Barnes 70gr TSX
SMK 77gr HPBT

Barrel made it in today. Just need to pick up receivers from FFL and drop at cerakote and then it’ll be time to slap it together.

I have been shooting 77gr razorcore. Really happy with grouping out of my criterion 14.5”. It’s now my go to for home SD.

I bought my first AR in 2007 and finally got an ambi charging handle and ambi selector since I'm a lefty. It's nice (especially having the choice between 45 or 90 for the selector) but I don't know if it was worth $90 (radian raptor and radian talon combo).

Worth it. Those are legit components.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they aren't quality products. The Raptor charging handle is NICE. It's gonna be hard unlearning 15+ years of using my right index finger to chamber a round and only using 3 fingers on my left hand around the pistol grip when the weapon is on safe.

I have a PSA no step on snek meme lower that im putting a 450 bushmaster upper on and im kicking the idea around to try and get the whole gun cerakoted in a bushmaster pattern/color. I have not had one coated before so im looking around for people prices and ideas.

I went to LEW's in Central, which is in the BR area.

One reason I did was it was near me... but he was listed at the Cerakote site also.

Go to Cerakote, click "Find Applicator". They should list some folks near you.

Another option, which you might not think about- if you know anyone who paints cars, ask them (the guy who owns the shop, not a worker).
Autoworks in Baker, Mark will cerakote guns. He told me he's done a bunch. He has the oven setup for that.

I mean, that's a guy who paints things for a living, and knows how to prep the right way. He said he's saved a lot of guns after the flood in 2016, got them restored back to looking new again. I would trust him more for highly detailed work like the pattern you want, as he's pretty much a perfectionist on his work.

I'll check all that out. IDK about a auto paint guy with trying to do the pattern stuff...maybe so I may not even do it I have no idea what it will cost yet

I have been painting my AR's with Krylon and stencil kits for a few years. Tape up the stuff you don't want to get paint in like muzzle, Bolt carrier, scope controls and lens.

you can buy the stencil kits here
LINK

Its not hard just takes some patience.

My last one I did. Cost me about $40. This one I painted the dark green first then black then brown then FDE. There are video's on youtube that are helpful.

I mean, I wouldn't suggest a Fact-O-Bake or whatever for that

I knew the guy, and saw him at the range one day. I mentioned "too bad you don't cerakote, because I've got some stuff I've thought about doing", and he said he does, and has a smaller oven bay set up in the back of the shop for just that. That's when he told me about doing a number of guns after the flood. Doesn't advertise, all word of mouth... I think he's just a damn good painter and this is a hobby for him.

Re LEW, he does fine work, they can give you a price if it isn't listed on his site. The site has a chat option, you can ask and wait, see what they respond with.

I've done that too, and it has come out pretty damn good. But I'm under no illusions that it would be as permanent/durable as a cerakote job.

I've done a couple with tan and green, in larger stripes that look nice. Basically, the gun fades from green to tan, and back, about 4 times from end to end. Went over it afterwards with a matte clearcoat, which seems to be recommended for additional protection.

So way back when PSA was dropping a lot of meme lowers I lucked out with a serial number of 50. So I did what any self respecting scary black weapon of war owner should do and got a .50 Beowulf upper for it. I thought about maybe a 50bmg upper but the beo is a little more useful

Scored off gunbroker for $330 I got from Alexander arms a lightly used complete basic upper. The thing looks brand new so I’m pretty pumped with the savings.

I am thinking a vortex strike eagle 1-6 I have laying around for 100 yardish pig hunting. Ordered an Adaptive Tactical AR-15 EX stock that looks nice and squishy. In order to keep the warranty (at least for now) I am leaving the pic gas block and putting on a VISM AR-15 Triangle M-LOK Mid-Length drop in Handguard.
