I have put thousands of rounds through same exact BCG in a MK18 with no issues. The bolts are 8620 steel and have a lifetime warranty. Not sure what’s the problem.

Ok gentlemen, I've only shot an AR once in my life and I want one.
Not looking to build one, just want to buy one. What little research leads me to start with a 556 probably in a 16" barrel. Thinking of a budget of about $1500.
Am I on the right track?
Open to any suggestions on what to look at, and where. I'm near Baton Rouge.
ETA: I just read Carson's OP, which was in 2012. The leader in the $1000 range still S&W, Stag and Rock River?

599.99 at PSA right now
PSA’s entire AR15 catalog
For what you’re looking for you can’t beat a fully assembled one from PSA. There’s plenty to choose from and they constantly have deals and flash sales. Spend the extra money on their deals where you get a case and a PSA dagger and 15 magazines for a nickel. And then buy a nice optic for it.
I originally planned on buying a complete gun but thanks to this thread I ended up buying an upper and a lower and assembling it myself (literally push together and place a pin) and I ended up with a much nicer gun. If you want to do a little customization or research buy a complete upper and lower and put them together. If not, no big deal just buy a complete rifle.

if his budget is $1500, he'd be better off getting one of the new PSA Sabre models.
PSA "SABRE" FORGED 16" 5.56 FN CHF CL 15" KNURLED SLANT RAIL SABRE FURNITURE RIFLE - $959.99
PSA "SABRE" FORGED 16" 5.56 FN CHF CL 15" KNURLED SLANT RAIL B5 BRAVO RIFLE - $969.99
Remaining Sabre Rifles...
Also, I just learned this this week... the 13.7 and 14.5 barrels in the Sabre line are "Pin and Welded" meaning the muzzle device has been permanently fixed to the barrel and is now part of the overall length of the barrel. so, instead of a 16" barrel and adding a flash hider to make it 17 or 18", that max length of the Sabre barrel is just over 16". so you get the features of an "SBR", but since it's technically over 16" with the muzzle device, you don't have to register it with the NFA and ATF.
Spend the rest on optics and accessories.

Agreed. I was going to jump on one myself but I’m going to wait a few months for when they offer a $1500 model plus a case and 30 magazines and a knife and a Dagger for like $400.
I never understood a woman’s psychologically addictive compulsive shopping habit until I got into firearms.

i was so close to buying one of the few models they had earlier this week, but i held off. i had recently bought one gun per week the past 3 weeks.
Colt Python
Colt King Cobra
Taurus GX4 XL
really didn't need another AR, so to get my "fix", i started to add to my current one a little bit along with my PSAK-47 GF3.

I want to shoot a Chiappa Rhino. I’m very intrigued by the design and promises.
As for my current fix, I started upgrading my 1911.

Thanks for the suggestion. Where would I have one shipped if I purchased off of their site? Again, I’m near BR.

Palmetto will give you a list of FFLs in their files to choose from when you go to checkout.
Call whichever one you choose and see what they charge to transfer it to you as each place will be different.
A place up here in Indiana charges $25 cash but $35 with card.

You need to ship to an FFA who will receive the rifle and do the paperwork for you. PSA lists out their FFAs by zip code at checkout.
Have you ever shot, owned, stripped, or cleaned a firearm before? Have you ever shot, owned, stripped, or cleaned an AR15 before?
If not, you might want to look into a private beginner class with someone who can show you the basics and teach you to shoot. I know a few here can recommend you some people or places in BR.

Considering your budget I would get an FN.
now, i'm asking this for my benefit/knowledge as well, but how is that rifle any better than the PSA rifle i linked?
Both have an FN barrel, but i'm under the assumption that the PSA rifle has a better trigger, better BCG, better buffer springs, better stock (if that even matters

i should add that i'm a budget guy myself and my current setup is an anderson with magpul furniture. looking to "step up" in the not-too-distant future.

If you're looking to spend that much just get an LWRC DI MLOK. Fully ambi and has a fluted HBAR.

If you don't care about ambi though it's hard to beat the IWI Zion 15 for around $850.
Me personally $1500 is X95 territory but that's obviously not an AR15.

Thanks RG. I'm an old fart who has owned several shotguns and handguns, just never a real rifle/AR15. So, yes and no. Certainly never opposed to learning.

That the whole thing is coated NiB right down to the bolt and extractor. If it was just the exterior surface that would be one thing, but coating the gas system components and extractor is. The extractor is obvious, that's one part you do not want slick. It not something you want inside the gas system because NiB's structure makes it fragile, it cracks and erodes quickly especially were the gas rings ride. Also, no NiB coating has passed DoD testing for corrosion resistance. Not one. A standard mil-spec BCG with a little CLP will far outperform NiB BCGs in standardized corrosion tests. NiB is cheap, it's easy for environmental compliance, and it being slick appeals to the lazy.

Both have an FN barrel, but i'm under the assumption that the PSA rifle has a better trigger, better BCG, better buffer springs, better stock (if that even matters ) and has a free floating rail system vs a Magpul carbine handguard. with the main difference being a significant price difference.
just bumping his question

Question for you and others who have rattle canned a AR. I have a few that I built with parts from different vendors and the upper lower and HG are not the same shade of black (tragic I know

Pic of my lite boi for fun since I just took it. Factory built .300blk. I did swap out the bcg with one of their titanium adj bcg. I’m waiting to see reviews of the rugged Alaskan Ti but I’d like to use that for this one because it’s insanity light. Ultimately a NOX35 would be awesome on top but that’s a un known at this point.

What’s the consensus on an aftermarket trigger?
A local place has the BCM PNT assembly for $75. Are their better options?
