They are gimmicky. The only grips I use are BCM short grip or the BCM KAG. Advantage of kag is that it is like a handstop and you can use it for barricade support for more stable shots.

If the overall length is less than 26" or if the barrel is less than 16" then it must be registered as a short barreled rifle

Yeah, they seem to be standard issue

Because they are issued. Try putting something better on there and the armorer's will get all pissy and you'll probably get in trouble.

Unless it's a pistol? Right?

A factory fresh AR lower receiver that has never been part of a firearm can be used to build a pistol, carbine or rifle. If a lower receiver is built into and registered as a pistol first, it can be stripped down and converted into a rifle in the future. If the receiver built into a carbine or rifle first, it must always remain part of a rifle and cannot ever be used to build a pistol.

It's not necessary to use a lower receiver stamped "Pistol" or one that is marked with the specific caliber of ammunition you plan to use when building an AR pistol. The markings are irrelevant just as long as the lower is brand new from the factory at the start of the build.

Absolutely no part of his ramblings made a damned bit of sense.
He specifically states that if you shoulder a pistol with a blade brace that you are breaking the law.

The law says you aren't supposed to convert a lower that was sold as a rifle into a pistol.
I would imagine the serial number of each lower sold through an FFL is recorded somehwere with some data about that particular firearm (date of manufacture, make, model, etc.) so theoretically the ATF could cross reference an offending pistol-converted-rifle and determine it's illegal.
If it's an 80% lower 'ghost gun' (

We just had that discussion yesterday. Has to be a stripped lower and you can do whatever you want!

Yeah I was going to say, I bought an extra stripped lower when I got my first rifle. So it was never a rifle. But how could I ever prove I didn't "make it into a rifle first". Just confusing to me.

"Proof" is the burden of the prosecution. If you didn't do it, don't worry about it.

I’m doing a rifle that will be for my kid. I had originally bought a stripped spikes lower but bought that palmetto complete lower yesterday for $170. So I’m stashing the stripped lower for a pistol.

They were $150 with magpul grip and stock up until Feb. 15th. Did my FFL transfer yesterday. I had started a thread about an OB AR build not 10 minutes before the shooting story broke. I figured I better go ahead and "pull the trigger" on the complete lower the next morning. They were out of stock by lunch.
I'm looking at the barreled uppers. Interested in the 223 Wylde, but their stock on uppers is getting thin as well.
ETA: Looks like the magpul version is back in stock, but they raised the price $10.

Yea that’s what I got.

Hell of a deal for what you get. Reviews said the trigger isn't the best, but for the lower and magpul parts you could drop another trigger in if that's what you had to have.
I suspect people talking down about the trigger shoot a lot more than I do. I bet it goes bang when you pull it.
