I considered the 556k, but I am not that worried about the size difference and think the standard 556 would probably be better for am SBR application.

It depends. If you want the smallest OAL, go with the k. If you think sound suppression is your #1 thing, go for the regular. Some people just want a smaller amount of noise reduction and less flash but the most compact package they can have. Look at the KAC CQB cans on SBRs if you want an example of that.

Tite. What range/land do you frequent? I usually hit Honey Island or Nick's in Garyville. The latter is fairly equidistant between BR and NO.

Hey guys so I'm starting to look at uppers. I'm looking at just buying a complete upper. I'm looking at a 16" barrel and I see there are a ton of options for carbine length, mid length, etc for the gas system. When I'm buying a complete upper none of that should really matter correct? It should work out of the box I would assume. I've read on it and understand how it works, but what advantage is realized when buying a complete upper is my real question?

Also is there a huge difference between running a 13" vs 15" Keymod handguard on a 16" barrel?

Are you asking about difference in weight?

If so difference is probably negligible.

other than that it's just aesthetics.

yup
Deciding between 13" and 15" BCM KMR now. Everytime I think I want the 15" I then want the 13" and vice versa

Guess this means I'll just have to buy another AR One of each

The options matter. They interact together in a relatively predictable way.

Yes. The key word here is "should." From my research, BCM has a highly responsive customer service department.

You don't have to torque the barrel. You don't have to fiddle with the gas block. It's ready to strap on a lower and fire. That's a lot to be said for that - especially from a reputable company, Daniels Defense, BCM, PSA, etc.

It does matter in the sense that if you are looking for a mid-length setup you don't want to get a carbine length setup. To answer your second question, you are correct in assuming that if you buy a complete upper it should work out of the box, assuming you built your lower correctly.

Advantage compared to what? Building it yourself? All the work is done and you didn't have to buy tools. If it's from a reputable vendor you know it will work.

As for the rails, a 15" will give you a better sight radius than a 13", but will weigh more. And by weigh more we are talking like 1.3oz if they are 6061, which most are, slim profile keymod or mlok. It's personal preference really.

You just need to take the plunge already, brother. There's too much shite and personal opinion on the internet forums. You could read them forever and never come upon the exact conclusion you are looking for that defines what the perfect rifle setup is. As long as it goes bang, everything else is preference. but the GREAT thing about these rifles is they are so modular you are never locked into anything. Start with something mid range, shoot it a bunch, learn the gun and figure out what you like. Then go spend the big bucks on fancy gear and upgrades. This won't be the only AR15 you end up owning.

I should have clarified. What is the real difference between a mid length vs carbine length gas system if I buy the complete upper, is there any advantage or disadvantage of one vs the other when I'm getting the complete upper?

LOL I have 4 Aero lowers headed to my FFL now. I'm actually kind of pissed because it said they were in Stock on the website. I called the next Monday to clarify my address for billing purposes and asked when it would be shipped. They were like Yeah it's on backorder so probably 4-6 weeks. Apparently when the website says it's in Stock and allows you to checkout without saying a single word about a backorder it could be back ordered.
