Off book gun purchase at gun show

I’m going out of state to a gun show this week. I want to buy a handgun but my drivers license is from a very restrictive gun state.
Can I still purchase in a private transaction from someone at a show?

You can not do this legally and there is a good chance someone offering to sell you said handgun could be setting you up. A person can not legally buy a handgun out of state. The handgun to legally be transferred has to be shipped to a FFL in the state that you live
If you wanted buy out of state I would do so away from a gun show, perhaps buy from an friend in a gun friendly state

This is all theoretical of course, you would never advertise that you want to evade any state laws, right baw?

I think buying a handgun over state lines is a federal crime

Just go fishing with a buddy who always carries but is prone to boating accidents

At least in LA I think. I don't think you can sell to someone from another state. I assume each state is different.

The gun shows I’ve been to will ask where you’re from. If it’s a restrictive state then they could be in deep shite. Both federally snd with your state. Same with you

Do NOT do this. ATF can and will stop cars with out of state tags leaving a gun show. Buying a handgun across state lines, “off book” or not, is a federal crime. You will go to prison for this. Especially if you live in a restrictive state.

Three kinds of sellers at a gun show.
1. FFL holders who buy a table and sell. EVERY pistol they sell must be to a resident of the state the gun show is in or they have to ship it to an FFL in the buyers state of residence.
2. Private sellers who rent a table but do NOT possess an FFL and are selling their own guns to other individuals. They and their buyers are subject to the same laws governing face to face transactions anywhere in the state the sale takes place in.
3. Private sellers walking around with a gun or two of their own they are selling in the same manner as #2.
I have bought pistols from both 2 and 3. I was in the state I lived in, hence I think I broke no laws. I did not ask (nor care, really) what state they were from. I offered to show both my drivers license and concealed carry permit. They usually don’t seem to care. It makes me feel better though I’m not sure why.
I will continue to buy any gun I buy from an individual with no paper trail, as long as it remains legal to do so. When/if that changes I’ll just be happy with the collection I have accumulated. I’ve probably got way too many now, but there are a few I’d like to purchase to round out my collection. Dan Wesson revolvers, Desert Eagle .50AE, and maybe a MAC 10.
Good luck to the OP. Be careful, but enjoy your 2A rights while you have them.

Why do people post about stuff like this on the internet?

And do what, other than NY, there is no requirement to prove where a firearm legally carried in your vehicle was purchased.

Try arguing that in front of a Federal Judge. Point was that they do surveillance at gun shows in “source states” and pull over out of state vehicles that they see occupants getting into carrying a gun out of a gun show. Plenty of cases of this happening if you look around.

Illegal handgun transfers across state lines is federal. Make damned sure you know what the frick you're doing and then quit doing that.
On the other hand, there's zero chance your friendly local law enforcement and the Alphabet Boys are closely watching a giant transient gathering of people moving guns, so post whatever illegal thing you want to do on the internet and go for it!
