You know how much pin weight you get from two e feliciana broads rolling around in that front bed?

I have serious doubts that a one ton will cut it.

If you ever plan on hauling a load in anything but La flatland the brake upgrades would be advisable.

As others have stated pin weight is key for a 5th wheel but the proper rated tires would also be high on my list as well ( i don't know if 1/2 tons come with a good E rated tire).

Since your an Alabama fan do you live in Alabama? If so there are some pretty hilly areas as well as some decent mountains. So if thats where you plan to do most of your camping I would lean more toward a 3/4 ton truck. If you will be towing on flat land most of the time a half ton will do, but there are better tools for the job.

Air bags are a good option but they don't increase your tow rating or payload rating. But its always a good idea to try and be level when towing so for a halfton I would say get the bags for sure.

The extra weight alone of the 3/4 ton helps it handle the load better. But diesel is not needed unless your towing over 10k frequently.

No he could get a 3/4 gasser...

The problem with 1/2 tons and 5th wheels is you kind of paint yourself into a corner on your options. step up to a 3/4 ton and there isn't much on the 5th wheel market that truck couldn't handle.

Ive got a 35 ft bumper I pulled with my 1/2 ton but I didnt want to go far. I now pull it with a deisel and you dont even know its behind you so I would go anywhere with it.

Before I bought a camper I would do some numbers and figure up where all you go and stay in cabins etc... for the price of a camper. No up keep, clean up, or anything then and I have a feeling you could go quite a few times a year for what you pay on a camper. For us this wasnt really an option because where we like to stay only rv camping is offered.

For that reason I was looking at bumper pulls, but would rather have a 5th wheel.

Main difference between the two is head room ( big difference to me) and pulling ease ( didnt matter to me because we dont go far). I was able to get a lot more camper for what I was willing to spend by going with a bumper pull.

My kids love it and it is definitely a good idea IMO. If you don't have a 3/4 or 1 ton truck i wouldn't get a 5th wheel and would look at bumper pull travel trailers. I started out with a 29' Spree travel trailer and sold it and upgraded to a 32' 5th wheel. The 5th wheel is much easier to hook up to and pulls much better plus the room inside is great. They do have more quality control issues than boats in my experience and no matter how much you spend there will always be something minor wrong with the trailer. As far as low budget vacations rv's can't be beat. Most state parks are $26/night so it is definitely cheap and it is better than a camp in that you can pick a different destination every weekend. If you have the room and the funds i would invest in a structure to park under as it will save the roof of your RV and keep it looking nice. Only real issues i have faced are blow outs the tires they sell them with are junk. I would go to berry land and dixie off of I-12 and walk through all of them to find what fits your needs the best.

Why the head shaking AlxTgr? WIth a half ton you would be limited to 25ft or less 5th wheels. Hell my 32' wildcat weighs in close to 11k and puts 1500 lbs on the pin. It drops my F-250 on its arse.

I bought this one a year ago, has everything we were looking for, rear bunkhouse for the kids and all. 31 fter, about 35 total length, 250 handles it fine. Not overly big though. We love it. Grey water tank size is very important as others have said. I probably have to empty my tank once or twice a day. PITA. I didn't want to take up bed of my truck with the fifth wheel.

Probably the biggest thing i miss about the travel trailer. The 5th wheel hitch takes up allot of room. I used to throw the bikes, ice chests, fire wood etc. In the bed now i have to put it on the rack behind the 5th wheel.

This is my rig. I built a custom aluminum rack for the back after my factory bumper tore off from a bike rack + spare tire.

Because I've had two 5ers with my 1/2 ton with no issues. Several OEMs make "1/2 ton series". The 25ft. thing is a myth as I'm sure you realize pin weight is probably the only limiting factor.

Yours looks a lot like my outback with the outdoor kitchen. I have 2 grey water tanks though and yes I would pissed if I only had one. Main thing I wanted was a seperate room for the kids so we could put them in bed early. Love the bunk house and they even have room to play in their room.

yeah as nice as 5th wheels are to tow and design, it was just a no go for me. I wouldn't know how to take my dog in her kennel on short trips.

A 5th wheel is a WAYYYYYY better idea than a bumper pull on a half ton all else equal.

If I'm going to pull 10klbs, I'd way rather it on a fifth wheel than way out at the back of my frame.

If you're getting a bumper pull get a 3/4 ton.
