I don't think I've ever still been in the blind at 8:30 for a teal hunt

We stayed the first day because we only had like 3 at 8 am.

Then it picked up!

I figured because the birds were full of rice the ones that got in somewhere early, ate and congregated because it was safe. Then they all came back to our field which was just flooded native grass, to hang out mid morning.

Jesus. You hunting big water?

Not really, but it is close to some refuge land that gets inundated with ducks. Everyone else hunts with 1-2 dz dekes, so I am hoping a large spread will look more like what they are used to seeing on the refuge.

That's awesome. I took Bourre to the vet yesterday for the first time. He weighs 17lbs and the vet estimated he would top out around 45. Any clue how big yours is?

And yeah he is pretty smart. He learns from my Boykin VERY quickly. Way easier to leash train him than my boykin.

I would say he will top out around 45-50 lbs. My Vet comes to my house for dog check ups. My daughter. I would say he is around 15-18 lbs now. Maybe more.

Had to put him on a leash the first week. Was way out of control. Now, he knows all commands and retrieved his first bird under a gun last week.

No kidding. Last year we had mornings where we would see 2000+ ducks. They would fly right over our heads and then drop right down into the refuge. However, we only had 2 dz dekes. I'm hoping a large spread with lots of motion will make them think the refuge boundary got expanded.

My experience with teal is that they are either coming into the decoys or they're not. There's not much you can do to change that.

Except hunt the refuge. There is one more strategy, but I am NOT posting that kind of info here.

Depends on the amount of mojos in the spread. +1 and you will get a look. +4, get ready to unload.
