Teal hunting for me has always been exactly like dove hunting, just over quicker.

I used to say that, but a couple of years ago I had a place that from opening day all the way through the season it was exactly the same.

A pair at shooting time, a single or another pair in the first 15 minutes. Then from 8:30 to 10:00 we would get 3 to 5 groups of 25+... biggest being about 60.

It was fricking sick.

At Catahoula, you can just walk out there in Chuck Taylors and stand by a small cypress. Bam, Bam, Bam, Bam. Walk back to truck.

We'll probably have 3 or 4 out. You don't even need decoys most of the time, though I'm sure we'll over do it and have a bunch out

We are going 1 mojo and a mixed spread made up mostly of teal. Jerk string down the pipe and a weasel ball feeder to make up motion on the outside.

I know "textbook" early season is to keep the spread count low, but I like a shitload of action on the water.

I actually go big early in big duck season, the whittle the spread down to a couple of pairs by the end.

For teal I pack the usual, about 15 sticks of bamboo from an abandoned lot in the hood and...

Good, I feel a little better.

We are going BIG. Gonna look like a fricking duck carnival out there with splashing, spinning, pulsating all that good shite.

Yes, use 3 or 4. Teal are dead ringers for them.

Hummingbirds all over my house and yard. Fighting little shits. They started to show up about three weeks ago.

It is as much a dress rehearsal for big duck season as anything else. Come November, we will be putting out 9+ dozen more than likely and I want to make sure we eliminate the hiccups beforehand if possible. Transporting, deploying and picking up are all somewhat up in the air. It is public land so I want to make sure it is feasible.

Just got off the phone with my brother that lives down da parish. Mike at Reggio landing had called him earlier to tell him a shite load of Teal are now in Reggio as of yesterday evening.

Good thing for those that hunt there.

The birds I saw this morning were in groups of 75 to over 100. The high flyers were heading south. Other birds that were flying low, an easy 500 came in shooting range, buzzing me. I was wearing a white tee shirt, standing up in the boat.

I don't think I've ever still been in the blind at 8:30 for a teal hunt

Last season, I would limit out in 10 minutes. I would still hunt till around 10 am calling in birds. Had a blast doing that. Some mornings, I had well over 100 birds in the decoys at a time.

Hell i live overkill for teal. I will have 48 teal, 4 black duck dekes 5 mojos and 2 wonderducks. If they fly by, they should at least come take a look. Ready to blast!!!
