Other thing that jumped out at me was how big that gun looked. I'm not saying get a mouse gun, but jeez, it looked bigger than a GI 1911 in his hands. Not as long maybe, but taller.

One other thing- there was a mention of the gun being used for truck and CC. Without knowing Virginia's laws, I'd think taking a class is mandatory if you're going to conceal carry.

Yes, it is a big weapon and it really does feel good in my hands, despite the way it looks. Fits very well with that bulge on the grip. Very ergonomic.

And yes, Virginia does require a class, background check, and 40 bucks to get your CC.

Edited to add: Thanks to your Dad, you understand me and where I'm coming from.

I guess I was able to interpret BFIV's complaints a little more; I remember my dad was also old school. There was 3 types of pistols in his book: revolvers, 1911's, and "goddam pieces of junk". He was ex-military and an engineer, but there was no getting past his personal preferences. I recall discussing a possible purchase in the early 80's and couldn't sell him on a Hi Power

I figured as much. Something about the way you complemented the gun and then rattled off 10 ways it "wasn't a 1911", basically.

Which is fine- I say go get one. Or-

If you haven't tried out a CZ 75, I recommend it. Gives you the same basic controls of the 1911, same capacity advantage as the Walther. Excellent real steel pistol, and since size isn't a concern, it's not too big.
And Col. Cooper liked it too

You should love the grip on the CZ!
