Seems like the last 2 years the deer on our lease has gone nocturnal pretty quickly soon as the season starts. We get plenty of pictures on the cameras at night but don't see anything during the day. Our lease is only 150 acres so not much land to be on and not be heard by the deer I reckon.

Do ya'll have any advice on how to turn this around to where they start feeding during the day again? I know this is a stupid question......but just curious if there is any solid advice you can give.

Only bow hunt, don't ride 4 wheelers and make sure your neighbors aren't poaching. Also do year around food plots and create bedding areas on yalls land.

I guess a big problem is the 4 wheeler. But when you have 2 young boys hunting with you and you have to carry a couple guns, heater to keep them warm, snacks, hunting bags, etc.....it gets hard for this ole' man to pack all of that!

Definitely a great point though....

do yall feed? I cut my feeders back to about 3 seconds in the morning and evening. there’s never enough on the ground for them to wait till night to eat it

We discussed feeding all year just the other day and was wandering if that would help? They clear cut our property this past summer so we are hoping as the underbrush grows back up, that the deer will start bedding down in it in the coming years.

Seems the deer are bedding down on the property above us and then coming to eat on ours right now.

A more expensive option would be a night vision scope but thinking cheaper, I would go with lightbars on all your stands and feeders...

Just kidding... Or am I?

Cut down on noise and human traffic. Create areas of cover where you never, ever, set foot. Do things at regular times so deer get used to it. Don’t break from your pattern once established. They hate change, but will stand next to a busy interstate feeding once they realize they aren’t in danger because it’s normal and predicable.

All this is easier said than done, but it’s about all you can do. We struggle with it on 1000+ acres, always someone who wants to go corn up or check cams, so I feel your pain.

i bought some barrels this year and left them under my stand full of corn. it’s a good walk to my stand to carry a bag and i was tired of having to use the 4 wheeler to reload.

Don’t feed as much if any. Deer have to eat some time during the day. I would also change my hunting times and maybe do more midmorning to mid afternoon

Nocturnal, or just now where you want them in the day time?

A deer won’t starve himself all day waiting for dark. Hell just bed in thick cover close to food.

Get as close to bedding as possible and hunt the wind.

Wait for a few cold snaps. On my property in SE LA was the same way last year. After our third freeze we started having as many day time pics as night.

Yeah we did find a spot this past weekend closer to the property above us where they seem to be bedding and then coming on to our property to eat that has quite a few deer signs. We are gonna setup closer to that and see but we also don't want to get too close to the property line because I know people get "funny" about such things.

Great advice everybody......thanks!

Start looking for a new lease. Sounds like lack of deer numbers may be the problem here baw

We just discussed that too this past weekend. We are kind of surrounded by other leases, so we are really at their mercy. We are hoping the underbrush that should grow up from the clear cutting they did this past summer will attract some deer to start bedding down on ours.

They’ll bed and feed on fresh growth as long as the timber company doesn’t spray. Keep it quiet and low pressure and they’ll use your place to get away from the other clubs. Now’s the time to get established with where you’re gonna go and not go and stick with it.

“Our lease” , “150 acres” and “4wheeler” are all red flags. Too many people on a small place. Hunt the property from the outside edges in.

A number of years ago I hunted on a small lease. At the time I was in college and did not have a 4 wheeler but others in the club did. When I hunted on weekdays and walked into the stand I would see deer, but when 4 wheelers started running on the weekends they just didn't move.

Put a camera or two on travel lanes and see if they are only visiting your hunting areas at night and moving around other places in the day or if they are completely nocturnal.

they’re only nocturnal where you’re hunting. You aren’t hunting the places they are active in the hour before dark and hour after sunrise
