Related story about the fear inducing speckeld king.
Some years ago I discovered a discarded homemade pipe bomb in a small creek in Ft Worth.
I called police who called everyone including FBI, Swat, Bomb Squad, and FWFDP. Neighborhood was evacuated for 2 blocks even though the pipe bomb was only 10" long and 1" diameter and located in the shallow creek at the bottom of a 15 ft deep drainage basin.
A pair of bomb squad guys in full on Michelin Man gear goes down to detonate the bomb in place. They slowly and clumsily descended the steep creek bank only to come running full sprint back over the top.
They were running from a speckled king snake that had made its way near the bomb during the multiple hours it took them to get everything set up.
After much ado and a description of the snake, I convinced them to let me help them identify the thing and went down with them (in shorts and a T shirt) and removed the snake with my hands and carried it back up to the top of the creek before they remotely shot the bomb with a shotgun shell.
How the hell did you kill such a gorgeous harmless helpful snake man????
