No permit needed for night hog hunting?
Friend of mine recently told me that a new law was passed to where you did not need a night hunting permit to hunt hogs during deer season? Has anybody else heard this? I can’t find anything on the web.

I thought it was only legal to hunt hogs at night outside of deer season.

I thought you had to have Night Take Permit from Sept.1st through February.March 1st through last day of August, don’t have to have permit.Might have passed new law but I haven’t heard of it.

re: No permit needed for night hog hunting?
If you hold a valid Louisiana Basic Hunting License, you may take feral hogs (where legal) year-round during legal daylight shooting hours. See current regulations for more information, including taking feral hogs on wildlife management areas and other public lands.

On private property, the landowner, or his lessee or agent with the landowner’s written permission and contact information in his possession, may take feral hogs at night from the last day of February to the last day of August of that same year. They must have an Outlaw Quadruped, Nutria, and Beaver Night Take Permit to take feral hogs at night from September 1 through the last day of February of the following year.

We got the permit last year during deer season. I am not aware of any changes to the law requiring a permit during deer season.

Not a bad idea to call the game warden and let them know you’ll be shooting at night.

I think LA law says you have to notify the sheriff's dept 24 hours before night hunting

Act 175 of 2020

The act at the link was passed and signed by the governor. It becomes effective 8/1/2020. I presume this is what your friend was referring to. It looks like you need to give 24 hours advance notice to the Sheriff.

I'm pretty sure that has been the case for several years, but nobody does it.

First time I called the Sheriff Department after the law passed they asked me why I was calling them. They didn’t know anything about the law or requirement to notify them.

Everytime we call, they tell us we don't need to call. It's actually pretty comical.

we would have to call everyday. its at least 3-4 times a week one of the retirees kills pigs at night. whenever we see them on the spy point we head that way.

Not necessarily. The law also allows you to call when you take the animal. Call the sheriff to brag about your kill.
