To answer some of the questions...

Yes, hit it high and dropped it in its tracks. Had to cut its throat. No screaming.

It is a yearling doe. I ain't very selective with a bow.

Fletchings were dry rotted. They shattered when she hit the ground and started rolling around. That was one of my 3 last arrows, time for a new set.

This ain't my first year bow hunting. I started doing the math. I bought that dozen in 2007.

I had 3 left, now 2.

Anybody got any recommendations? Are Gold tips and easton still top brands? What about the bass pro red head brand? Someone actually told me those are okay for the price point.

Cabela's store brand carbon stalkers are really good for the money. I shoot maxima reds and love them, but they come with a pretty steep price tag. I suppose with only upgrading once a decade the price shouldn't hurt too bad!!

Gotta admit that I laughed at the “dry rotted”. I’m amazed that you could keep a dozen that long. Do you ever shoot outside of deer season?

I also shoot carbon express. I’ve been using the maxima hunters for several years. No complaints, other than cost, when a pig runs off with one + Broadhead and lumenok.

They aren’t bad at all for the price. Shot some a while back and never had an issue.

Truthfully, no.

I've been bow hunting 25 years. I shoot 3 or 4 times in the week leading up to bow season each year to make sure everything is still on.
