Ok guys let’s here your debate

Really no debate imo. All a person has to do is try both in a fog and you’ll see why thermals are so much better

Thermal is the clear winner if you have $4k+ to spend. I did not so went digital night vision. Works well enough and have killed two hogs with my wraith so far.

I think they both have their place but there really is no comparison if you only had one or the other Thermal is the way to go.

Most people say thermal monocular to scan & locate, and a good NV to identify & shoot. I don't have that kind of budget so a thermal weapon sight is what I did.
Thermal prices have come down significantly in the last few years. The Flir 223 was a great sight for right at 2K, but they have been discontinued. The new Bering Optics Hogster scopes are incredible and range from 2,300-3,300.

I won one at my local gun shop 2 years ago in a raffle contest. I have it on my 300 BO SBR it’s a hog killing machine. I use underwood maximum expansion subs. They do the killing if you do your part.
I have had a PVS14 and thermal is the clear winner for hunting. If you want to drive around at night with no lights then PVS14 is a winner.

Not true. Pulsar core rxq30 is less than 2k and works great. The Dig nv wont work well in privet hedge or tall grass due to the IR reflecting back on you. I used to hunt some w/ a sightmark photon. Works well in a field w/ short grass. Not well in brush. Thermal is a game changer. Also you might think its crazy to spend 2k on a thermal scope, I think its crazy what people spend on side by sides. I think it just depends on what you value. For me thermals have been well worth it.

Thermal, get the lowest power you can get. I like the pulsar user interface and the battery setup from the trail series. Started with XQ-50 thinking I'd like the 2.7x base mag but it was too much zoom for scanning. Upgraded to the XP50 at 1.6x and have been happy. Had several Gen 2 and three night vision setups prior to moving to thermal and the weight of the thermal scopes is quite a bit less. I still use a handheld 3rd gen spotter. Don't use it much because hogs get lost in the shadows of distant trees.

It depends on intended usage, expectations and budget.

Fog kills NV, and were we live it is frequent. I got tired of planning on hunting on a night then having to drive home because of fog.
ATN is not highly regarded among the Pro guys, but I've yet to have a problem and it's way better than NV.
Pulsar 30 was a sweet deal but you can't get them new anymore. Try ATN Thor 384 HD. You can find them on sale sometimes for under 2k.

And don't get a thermal with less than 320 pixels. 640 plus is awesome but that is high. Anything less than 320 gets too grainy.

What about thermal binos? Anybody have experience with them?
