Back here for some of the sage advice. Looking to get a new cab tractor in the 30-40 hp range. Only need to use it regularly around 5-6 acres, but will take it to the camps here and there for dirt work and bushhogging. At the homestead it will be used for bushogging and grading the drive, and standard every day stuff.
Any pros and cons on the mahindras? 26 series specifically. I’ve ran the 45 series and had no issues but I don’t want to have to get a 3/4 ton to pull it. I was torn between mahindra and kubota, but for that upper 30 hp the weight difference of the mahindra won out. Anyone got any negatives on the mahindra?

Just looked at the Mahindra 2660 HST with cab.
Bucket and stuff that is on mine

Holy cow have tractors gone up since I bought mine. I paid $70k for my 2021 Deere 5075e with cab, bucket, bush hog, sprayer, land plane and quick attach hitch.

I’m not a huge fan of the hst, but I don’t hate it either. I’m just used to old school tractors and finding and grinding gears. Mahindra has a lot more arse for that up tractor than the kubota, which with the loader is making me lean that way.

I just sold my 1626 Mahindra. It is a great tractor and should fit your needs. Pulled it with my 5.7 Tundra, no problem. Just make sure your trailer has breaks and you get a break activator for your truck.

Thanks Unc, my truck has a 10k towing capacity so the 2638 keeps me below that with implements and trailer weight too. And yes the trailer will have breaks and truck has the actuator so all good there. I know kubota is the name, but for the size I need I’m having a hard time justifying the extra 10k or so.

I don't have much to add to this except for the following: in the utility tractor market segment, DO NOT buy a Deere.

Deere is 100% focused on big, heavy, overly sophisticated commercial farm equipment. They could give a frick about the utility tractor market, or the customers who inhabit said market.

In addition, there's the fact that Deere is a criminal organization whose executives should be investigated, tried, and sentenced to life in prison under the RICO Act. I would rather do business with Tony Soprano.

Yeah, I have some strong feelings on this subject

Tell us how you really feel baw! I was staying away from Deere, just because you’re really buying the name with them. I do still have my jd cast replica from about ‘87, but I don’t think they make them like that anymore!

I love my Deere but I am not of fan of their small cab tractors. I would look at Kubota or Kioti.

I'm looking at compact tractors and have heard during my research that Mahindra has supply chain issues with parts. People seem to be waiting a long time for things since covid.

I talked to one dealer that was thinking about dropping them because of it, and he had them on the lot to sell to me.

Kioti? Mahindra dealer was talking to me about them but I steered away, figured if I went orange it would be kubota. I’ll do some more research on them.

Following this thread… in the same situation. Been stuck on Kubota MX series. But have recently ran into a couple of guys with LS Tractors. Said service and part’s availability has not been a issue. Anyone have any experience with LS Tractor?

A mill I worked at had Kubota that was pretty tough until they literally ripped it in half some how. Was replaced with a mahindra hst and after using it, I would never buy the mahindra. It hasn’t been ripped in half yet but that’s because it’s never running or doesn’t have enough power to be used when it is running.

This ^^^ x1000.

I have a 2008 Mahindra 3316 gear and it has the Mitsubishi diesel in it. Awesome little tractor HOWEVER getting parts for it is very tough.

The best source for Mahindra parts is Bill’s Tractor out of Texas. They’re easier to do deal with re: part’s availability over ANY dealer I’ve dealt with.

Also, you may need to call them if a part isn’t showing up on their website as it’s not always updated.

Summary, Mahindra makes a great tractor but getting it serviced/parts availability will be an issue.

Kioti?

I have started looking hard at these after deciding that parts availability with Mahindra was an issue. I am not sure why you need 35hp, but here's some more info for you. The Kioti 25hp tractors have a tuned down 35hp motor in them to avoid emissions stuff. There is a fuel flow screw that is covered by some slip cover that prevents you from adjusting it. Tons of stuff out there related to getting to it and making your 25hp at 35hp again, without the emissions controls on the 35s they sell.

When you go from 25 to 35 hp, you gain power at the PTO and speed. I will take care of a 4 acre property, 300+ foot gravel driveway, and use at our hunting place. Very similar useage to what you mentioned, and so I have researched this topic recently. I don't bush hog giant fields with tall grass where you'll notice a difference between the two. I will likeley buy a 25, and when the warranty is over adjust the fuel flow to up the HP.

Look for a good dealer network. I went with Kubota because of reputation and the fact that there is a dealer 10 minutes away from my place in Folsom where the tractor lives.

Tractor is great, but things happen. Every time I go to my local dealer, I feel like they don't care and they are never very helpful. Also, their parts are sky high.

Now, I end up driving to the dealer in Hammond if I need something that's not pressing, they seem to be much better and their prices are certainly better.

For everything that's not stocked, I order from Messicks. I'd typically order from a dealer, but they just don't do anything to earn my business.

So, I'd look at local dealers and factor that into your decision.

That's definitely a factor in my decision. The tractor will live around Baton Rouge, so I have 2 Kubota dealers within 20-30 min and a mahindra around the same. Know folks at both so that should help some too.

Yea very similar set up as far as usage, but I just don’t think the 25hp is enough. There will be times when I will need it to cut at the camp, and that stuff is brutal, thick and tall. Plus I like having the extra weight too but staying under my towing capacity, that’s probably my biggest factor.

If you buy a Deere get an old 4020. It will outlast anything new they make today anyways

I bought a kubota 3902 last year for land upkeep. No issues whatsoever. I did not go with a cab because I do use it in the woods on my property. Something to consider if ur getting into tight spots.
