What Deer See

quote:

If you’re a deer hunter who likes to wear blue jeans to your stand, you might as well hang a cowbell around your neck to let whitetails know you’re in the woods. And if you wear camouflage with many subtle colors, it may be doing you more harm than good.

quote:

What this means to a hunter is that you should avoid wearing anything blue. You should also avoid wearing camouflage with a lot of white, because white reflects all colors, including blue. And because deer can’t perceive color shades very well, a hunter wearing camouflage containing many subtle shades of green and/or brown looks just like one big blob to deer. Instead, wear camouflage that breaks up your outline and move as little as possible to avoid being busted

I will always be more concerned with what the wind is and their sense of smell than what they can see

I completely agree. But any education you can gain on a whitetail is good info IMO.

I wonder how my pawpaw and dad killed so many deer over the years while sitting in a ladder stand while wearing blue jeans and flannel shirts. I guess I need to go shopping for a new camo wardrobe today......Bill Jordan loves these kind of studies.

Of course you can wear whatever the hell you want. I killed my bobcat last year at 10 yards sitting on a ladder wearing a flannel shirt.

I, personally, like to know everything I can about something I love to do. Hunt however the hell you like

No need to get your panties in a wad....just saying don't wear a lot of bright colors and sitting still isn't exactly cutting edge research leading to wealth if new knowledge.

should also avoid wearing a lot of white

oh well, that completely goes against my time tested tactic of strippin' down to my tighty whiteys in my climber during the early, sweaty part of bow season.

I killed a cat last year out my bedroom window, buck nekkid, with a .22 CB cap. Didn't even have to get my wife to hold the light.

thanks cc, but during the strip down part of the season, there's usually so much sweat runnin' down the lean, mean sculpted machine, skeeters can't land and possibly drown.
