I did not know that. Thanks for the knowledge. I went to Gold Dot when I ran out of Black Talons and then just recently switched to the PDX.

The design of the RIP bullet is interesting. Does anyone think that the sharp teeth on the tip of the RIP bullet could potentially damage the surface of your gun's feed ramp?

So the PDX is the closest thing to black talons would you get bonded or not?
Why do you go with your choice?

I am not setup to test any ballistics myself nor am I planning on doing so in the future. The ammo that I have selected for my firearms comes from extensive reviewing of others research.
Furthermore, I only keep one brand/make of a self defense round for each caliber. It makes it easier for me and I am just catering to the simplest denominator.
For my 45 acp pistols I chose the 230 grain pdx. Previously I used Gold Dot but upon purchasing an XDs, I started reading new reviews. What I found was that the pdx: expanded better, retained more weight, very reliable, and most importantly better fps and energy from the short XDs barrel. My 1911s love it as well, meaning zero feeding issues and good accuracy.
This is why and how I chose the Pdx / other ammo.

Pretty interesting.
A guess of $3/round seems pretty close to me although I won't be shocked if it is $5 a launch.
I worry most about as bapple said about the multiple chamberings and also the feed ramp. So many guns have issues cycling hollow points now, imagine how difficult a time guns will have with these.
I do love the idea of CNC to make these.

Yes, the PDX is basically the evolution of the Black Talon. The PDX is bonded. Great HP bullet.

I'm guessing $3/round
Just got my name on the list. It's in stock but the guy didn't know how many boxes they have so he doesn't know how many I can order. I think it's $44 for a box of 20.

Those things look absolutely nasty. Huge tissue damage from those petals breaking apart on impact and creating multiple wound channels. I can imagine those going into a chest cavity and causing total devastation. Hit center mass and you would have wounds into the lungs, heart and abdomen of the target.

Bump.
Anybody bought any of these?

it's going to be interesting to see when one of these is used in a self defense, or home defense scenario. a DA is going to have a field day saying the intent was to cause excessive bodily damage.
your best bet is to contact a LEO friend or just ask your local Sheriff what rounds they carry in your specific caliber, or at least the grain and bullet 'style'. it will quickly squash any proprietorial attack on your choice of self defense ammo.

Me too. I keep all of my home defense pistols loaded with Hornady Critical Defense.

I shoot these since it's just a critical defense round with a green insert

+1
Tried and true designs and used by most LE agencies for a reason.

The reason agenices used Hydrashoks is that the Federal HST ammo hadn't been developed.
Very few LE agencies still use Hydrashoks. Lots still use Gold Dots. Even more use HST.
