what's the verdict on this White Star idea? I don't think it's come up on this board yet.

as i understand it there will be a bar serving local/craft beers, possibly w/ a growler fill option.

and with communal seating, you can get your beer, grab a taco, and the person you're dining with can get something from a different vendor. Food Halls like these solve the constant struggle of "hey honey, what sounds good for dinner/where do you want to go?"
here's the reason you'll see chains in a new development, esp. one anchored by a national big-box retailer. the developer of the building had to pay a premium for the land because of the proximity to the Costco, that equates to higher rents.

Additionally, in order to get a construction loan from the bank, or to satisfy his capital lenders, he (or she - sorry women of real estate) has to pre-lease a certain % of the building with tenants with good creditworthiness. that typically means multi-store operations that have the ability to offset slow starts at new locations with income from established stores.

OR the owner of the locally owned restaurant/biz will need to personally guarantee the lease and have to prove funds to do so. so say on a 5 year lease for 4,000sf at oh, conservatively $15/sf, he's going to have to have liquid assets (outside of what it's costing to start the restaurant) of $250k. again, that's liquid. most young chef's simply don't have that laying around.

the guys at Oak Highlands are putting out some interesting stuff. their Tripel is called Freaky Deaky (10%ABV) and i personally like DFDub their Dunkelweis (7%). They're also one of the few breweries making a dortmunder - it's called Golden Mustache (5.5%).

they have the typical IPAs and stuff, but that's mainly for market demand. they're passion is German beers.

they're on store shelves at most places in cans, but they have a tap room too.

a buddy of mine started it so i'm slightly biased FWIW.
people will park in one of the SEVENTY parking spots. reading and counting are hard.
guess i wasn't the only one to start at the beginning and see that about the check date.
accountant here. dates on checks have nothing to do with when they're honored or not. you can put a date next year on a check, and the bank will take it. just an FYI. the date is purely for user reference. it doesn't even have to be filled in.

Post date the check so that it shouldn't be honored until the date written. This last tip is only my opinion

actually, that's a GREAT tip ... post date the check for two weeks after tix are to be mailed .. then, when you are given the tix, call the ticket office or go by to make sure they are legitimate tix ... if the check clears anytime before that .. this is on the bank and not you .. so, trust me, they won't cash it at all ..
i'd be worried about hogs more than humidity

what you need is the number for dominoes and a teenage babysitter to leave with the kids watching Frozen or Lego Movie. then enjoy your evening out for a couple hours after herding that many kids all day at the beach.
you may find someone to buy the pecan wood from you on craiglist. check w/ local BBQ joints on who cooks w/ pecan.

if that doesn't work, just post "free pecan wood" and save your back the labor of loading them on the trailer and hauling them off. lots of people like it to cook with.

Why are you so weirded out by eating alone? I love eating lunch alone. It's my time of the day to be away from everyone else.

was just about to say the same thing. i love eating alone. time to catch up on news/reading/thoughts or a baseball game or golf tourney on TV.

If you have a 4x4, and drive a ton, I would get the one loaded out.

Might as well ride in comfort. The Z71 has blisteen offroad shocks if i'm not mistaken. The 2wd should ride better.

agree 100% and you can always shove a 2" leveling kit under the front end and it will sit up high like the z71 and they only cost a few hundred bucks.

equal parts sugar & water and a big handfull of mint to make a simple syrup. can be used for a lot of things and will keep in the fridge for a while.
juuleps & mojitos (obv)
mint lemonade
it works fine, but is a needless machine when a vitamix as someone else said, can do the job, and many others. why have a single purpose machine?

if you're buying for someone who likes margaritas, then just buy them a GOOD tequila, some grand marnier, and some limes. that's all they need.

no one ever likes change, but it will grow on us, and eventually when they expand/change it again in 15 years or so, we'll all be complaining then too about how historic it is and why would they change it.

they can't. that's the problem.

Whistle Pig is some good stuff.

Like whistlepig for a sipper. Willett and high west eyes are very good too
i can't look at those and not think the exact same thing. the infrastructure is in place, it seems like a developer could be PAID or given significant tax abatement to create a future tax revenue stream. would have to be critical mass, like enough to build an entirely new city though.

*i've never been to detroit, and don't intend to so don't fully appreciate how bad these neighborhoods are.
quote:

If I were mayor, these neighborhoods would be condemned in their entirety, anyone left in decent tax standing would be compensated fairly, and moved out. City services completely shut off from the area, and a crew of bulldozers would push it all into a pile and a match thrown on it. Cut your losses and start over with a smaller, more manageable city and auction off the empty lots for business growth with tax incentives to attract more business.
was just about to say the same thing. if you've got the room, grills are like TV's, always err on the side of bigger.

I've never heard a man say, "Damnit I wish I had gotten the smaller grill."
