Since the season is about to kick off in Missisippi, here's the main things I've noted about the new year:

-No more doe piss allowed

-No carcasses brought in from outside the state

-You can now hunt within 100 yds of a feeder, and in sight of the feeder

-5 Antlerless, up from 3

-Each hunter on private land can kill 1 buck under the size limit. Thinning out yearling bucks

I honestly quit trying to keep up with the rules. For the first 20 years I hunted, the rules were basically the same.

Then, for the last 20 years they've changed in some material fashion almost every year. It's absurd.

Our local game warden told me a story a few years ago about how he got a call from a church about a family that needed some deer meat. So he went out in the pasture behind his house and shot one. And as he was driving it over to the family he realized something he had done was illegal (antler size or season or something).

He was like: I can't even keep up anymore. I'm not worried about it...

Worth pointing out that feed must be provided in a covered above ground feeder, and must be at least 100 yards from anyone else's property. Feed cannot be poured or piled directly onto the ground.

There's also different regs for new South Delta zone. It really is hard to keep up these days.

Count me in the group that is glad to see it get a little more complicated. Up until 2017 the state was only split into three zones. It's still pretty straightforward to figure out what's going on, but the state is at least making an effort to apply more appropriate regs to each area.

There is a ban on all supplemental feeding inside the CWD zone.

All I can say is if you think MS hunting regulations are difficult to understand I hope you never try to hunt out west or in the NE.

Did not know that, is it statewide? Won’t matter much for me but good to know

That sounds like George. I hunted for years just up the road from you. Nicest guy you could meet unless you were blatently abusing the resource.

I don't miss all the new rules and changes there but I do miss the hunting.

I'm not sure if it applies to the southern zones. They seem to have different regulations a lot of times

No. It was TM.

One time in college a buddy of mine was bow hunting with us and it was hot. Early October. I told him to walk out to the paved road at 10 am and I would pick him up. So he's there waiting and George drives by. Sees him standing on the side of the road in camo, with a bow.

Backs up and rolls the window down about 4 inches. Motions my buddy to approach the truck. "Are you with No Colors?" My friend said he was. "You got your hunting license?" Friend said he did. "Ok, good luck" Rolled the window back up the 4 inches, and headed on his way. Never even had to turn his A/C down, much less actually get out of the truck.

It's the only time he ever checked one of us in 20 years

That's the George I remember. The only time I ever saw him out of the truck was at dinner time at the camp to get a plate.
