Pretty wide range there, I think you might want to do some more research and education before rushing out and buying a rifle

As long as I'm hunting whitetail in LA or MS I'll never need any more than my .270. Magnums are unnecessary for whitetail inside of 300 yds IMO. I don't think I've ever hunted somewhere where a 300 yd shot was even available (or at least feasible)

Deer walks out inside of 450-500 yards of my 270 and he better have his shite in order.

I'm definitely taking the shot. Of course I've never shot my rifle at a target further than 150 yds

I switched to 150 gr from 130 gr this year and never even bothered sighting it in or seeing if it shoots different. Still kilt 2 deer with it

I may spend a day before next season taking some longer shots and checking my scope

appx 200yds with my .308 is the farthest I've ever shot. Hit it right below the head. Dropped her in her tracks. I'm guestimating on distance but should be pretty accurate. Stands on the highline are about 100yds appart and the deer was nearly to the stand after the stand next to mine.

Have you ever hunted?
Have you ever had a rifle with a scope?

The furthest shot I've ever taken at a deer was 80-90 yds. Most were inside of 60. I figured it wouldn't matter much

Had the opportunity to take 2 + /- 225 yd shots. One dropped and one ran about 45 yards. Both were with 130 grain bullets in my 270. The 2nd shot was a whole lot easier with a VX-III. The first shot was w/ a $65 Bushnell pos.

Got this in the .338 win mag and it's what I use the most. Love that gun.

I hunt with a 270 now. I'm looking at the 243 for something my wife can use and I can get some use out of ad well. The 7mm or 308 would just be another gun to use

7mm-08 /thread if its for you and the wife. Not a better low-recoil caliber out there for deer.

My wife killed her first deer this year with a 308. I love this caliber.
