I seem to remember the s-10s and the rangers being way cheaper than the full sized trucks back in the day, but I could be wrong

You’re correct. Back in the day, rangers and s-10s weren’t much bigger than a 4 seat sxs. Actually single cabs were smaller than a 4 seat Polaris ranger.

My dad bought an extended cab 4x4 Mazda B3000 (basically a Ford ranger with Mazda logos) in ‘96 for 20k. It was bigger than the early 90s mid trucks, but not nearly as big as the midsize today.

You can get a new 2019 Nissan Frontier Ext Cab 4x4 for 25k. I have seen some 2019 Frontier RWD for less than 20K with rebates.

It has 1996 prices because it's a 1996 design.

For what it's worth, midsize trucks now are the same size full-size trucks used to be. The new Tacoma's are the same size as that previous-model Tundra someone posted earlier.

Thanks for the review.

My impression is that it is a solid truck with execllent tech.

I'm seeing poor headlight reviews from IIHS, not sure what that's about.

people have lost their ability or willingness to shop. Last year, I found a 2016 GMC Canyon SLT (Denali wasn't an option in 2016, SLT meant fully loaded) with the Duramax, 27k miles. I only paid $26,500 for it. I flew to Austin from NOLA to get it and drove it back the next day. I saved at least $8000 over buying any of the local comparable offerings. Now I have a truck that can tow 7,700 pounds, fit two car seats in the back seat, and gets 25 mpg in baton rouge traffic. The bed is small but I have a trailer for when I need to haul stuff.
