I have a browning x-bolt western hunter in 26 nosler. Love that gun.

I think the ultra mags are necked full length 404 and the noslers are necked and shortened 404's. It makes more sense than a necked and cut .375 when you're going to have a shoulder for headspace.
The noslers make more sense than the win mags IMO. I just don't see them gaining big sales numbers. Like the WSM's were they are the new shiny thing. All great cartridges it seems like, just not overly likely to unseat the win mags in sales. Good thing is nosler is a bullet company at their core so ammo will likely always be available.

True, I dont see them unseating anything. The 28 imo has the best shot as being a more mainstream caliber since it falls between the 7 mag and 7 rum. The other noslers are great cartridges too but there will be more competition in the 30 cal and 6.5s.

It poses the question that if Jack O Conner hadnt made the cartridge famous early on, I wonder how it would have fared on its own?
Having grown up reading "Outdoor Life" and Jack O' Conner's monthly article, it was no surprise that the first rifle I bought was a Winchester Model 70 in 270 Winchester. Stand up comedian Rodney Dangerfield used to say, "Timing's everything." A similar situation existed w/ the 270. When the 270 came out there was no 25-06 (still a wildcat), 260 Rem, 6.5 Creedmore, 264 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, 284 Win, 280 Rem, 308 Win or 300 WM. Of course, there were also none of the "alphabet name" cartridges either (PRC, WSM, RUM, etc). The main competition the 270 had was the 257 Roberts, 250 Savage, 30-06 and 7X57 Mauser (which O'Conner also really liked). Given the field the 270 was running against, I think it would've still succeeded. May've been a different story had there been some other competitive "horses" in the race.

There’s a never to be proven theory that the .277 bullet exists because Winchester wanted a “western” 30-06 so they took the .308 diameter and multiplied it by .90 to get the reduction. I think it would have made it on its own merits either way, there’s something about it that just works.

How do you like that Fierce Rifle?

Its the best looking rifle I have. I love the stock ergonomics and I went with steel barrel instead of the carbon and its still incredibly light. It feels lighter then my tikka t3x lite. The bolt to me is a little stiff but its smooth. I love the 70 degree bolt throw. Trigger is a trigggertech so its good to go.
I am having an issue with the extractor cutting the case head on my brass. I called them and they initially said it was a brass problem and to try different brass. I ran it by my local smith who is a badass and he saw that the extractor was drilled slightly off. I called them back and they are shipping me a new extractor instead of me sending it back to them. But due to the bullshite at usps i havent gotten it yet.

Thats a good point, and totally makes sense. with what he have now, it does seem dated. But will still absolutely kill a deer, but there are many rounds that will.

Love the 270 Win. The fact that it's the only really successful . 277 just makes it special.
Now, if only I could buy ammo in these current times.
