You are correct on the above but for your limited use the Dewalt 20V may be right up your alley.

If not the 60V is one BAMF for a rechargeable saw, your issues will be carb related if you let it sit up for long between uses.

The 40v dewalt is actually stronger than the 60v

I have not seen a 40v used, the 20v is enough for most chores though, have not fired up the Stihl since I got it.

Running quality bar oil is just as important as running good fuel. You don't want to be overheating everything

I have a MS170 and a MS310. I use my 170 most of the time. It's just such a great lightweight chainsaw that can handle a lot more than you think.

what about kobalt? I already have kobalt 40v pole saw that is a beast. They have a chainsaw with 14"bar that uses same battery, but also have an 80v

I got the dewalt 60V saw a few months back. Works great, plenty of power, and always works. Additionally, the 60V battery works with my 20V tools and runs them all day.

Stihl MS170 or 180. You can get them at most of the CO-Ops around here. They work on them too. I’ve had my 170 for 9 years. Just a carb cleaning every few years.

I have a 1996 Stihl 025. Never cleaned the carb, never had to spray it down with cleaner, the most it's needed was a new oil pump seal and new fuel lines. I put a modern check valve on the breather line instead of the threaded plug and other than the usual maintenance items it has been flawless. 16" bar is perfect for pretty much any tasks and I save the 25" MS391 for just-in-case...

I believe they had a bunch of problems when switching to the new style carbs and mufflers. I've only ever owned pre-EPA pro-grade stuff, and never had a single problem with anything running them every day

Mine runs like a top but a tad cold natured. Not sure if all of them are like that.

As long as it says “Stihl” your good! I paid $350 for my MS 250. Save a few more pennies and get the 250. It’s a great intermediate saw!

Whatever you buy, ALWAYS run non-ethanol gas!!!!!

I paid $35 for that 025 in the vice from a local pawn shop.

Since the weather decided to screw me out of much needed yard work time, I decided to do a little cleaning and sharpening in the spirit of this thread.

Stihl, the only chainsaw.

170 or 180 for residential use.
