Have about 3 acres to cut. Looking to get a zero turn. Budget around $6000. Any recommendation on brand/model?

John Deere. They'll even give you a free hat!

The new exmark radius is right around that price and one step down from the lazer z. Emark is a fine mower.. Nothing bad to say about a scag either.

Id look at the light commercial series of mowers. Not residential but not full commercial. For instance, what I use John deer 645 (5 foot deck). One yard I mow is approximately 2.5 acres of turf and I can mow it in about an hour with a lot of obstacles.

Most all brands these days are good. Have JD since we also have all of our farm equipment through them. Hustler, exmark, scag are some of the better brands.

Check out pro power. I would take hard look at a hustler raptor. Under 3k and I pulled this trigger last year and have no regrets

I'm not doubting you but why scag? Why are they better than most?

I got a big dog alpha a while back. Mainly because it had 0% for 48mo so why not free money. But it's been perfect for the 36hrs on the motor.

The big name brands are all very similar. Many use 5he same engine, hydro, spindles, etc. Stick with scag, hustler, gravely, exmark, and you'll be good.

If that was my budget id go look hard at Dixie choppers.

Bought the ZT 60 last fall. Only have 15 hours on it. Fast, and very heavy built. Price was $4500 and free interest. Store in Woodville MS. They have ads on Craiglist.

Just got through buying a new one myself after researching a ton. My budget was a bit less than yours but I ended up buying a Hustler Raptor SD 54" cut for right at 4k. A couple others have mentioned Bad Boy. They are good mowers as well and are made by Excel - same as Hustler. They cost a bit more and have a couple more bells and whistles (i.e led headlights).

Really there are plenty of good options in your price range from all the top brands, but I think the Hustler is pound for pound about as good a deal as there is.

John Deere X304. 42 inch deck. It's not 0 turn, but it's pretty damn tight with it's 4 wheel steering.

I would really take a look at the Ferris mowers and compare the components and speed to what you are getting on some of the others mentioned.

I just bought 2 years ago and my price range was very similar to yours and I cut 2.6 acres.

The Ferris seemed to fit right in between the $5000 mowers and the $8000 mowers. They had the features of the higher end ones but the price was closer to the lower end ones.

What I discovered is that most of the mowers in this price range either use the 2800 or some have upgraded 3100 pumps. The Ferris has the 3400 pumps (full commercial grade)

Also most of the mowers that I looked at had a forward speed of 7-7.5 mph. The Ferris goes 10mph and will cut this fast on normal growth.

The Ferris also has a suspension system and the ICD cutting deck that are nice features.

All in all I am very happy with my Ferris mower and I think it's worth a look.

ETA: My mower is the Ferris IS700Z with the 52" deck and 27hp Briggs Commercial and it was $6100.

Hustler has a good deal going on right now.

Buy a mower that you can have serviced locally. All the big names are good mowers.
