If you have a budget of $2k then all the comments so far haven't touched the better scopes. The 3 below are neck and neck your go to. Go look through all 3 and you'll know immediately why $1400 and under scopes are not in this class.

I’d only move into that class of scope if I already had a quality pair of binos. You’ll spend hours looking through binos, but only a few seconds looking through a scope.

Nightforce ATACR 5-25x56
I have one and it’s spectacular.

Plus, if needed I can use it as a hammer. Name another scope that can do that.

I have one on my Falkor and it’s the F1. Love the scope but not something I recommend for a hunting setup due to the weight. The tiger NF scopes in SHV and regular NF don’t have as good of glass as some of the better European hunting scopes.

Have been hearing good things about Crimson Trace.... would like to try one myself but haven't had the chance to as of yet.

I have had Ziess, have Swarovski, hunted with Night Force. If you want light gathering, nothing touches Leupold VX-6
