My Orvis sonic has held up to some pretty serious abuse. OR makes a good one for light duty stuff.

A good rain jacket is worth it's weight in gold

Any military Gore Tex rain suit. You can get Army Goretex for around $40-$50 on eBay

Got my Marmot Precip for $53 on Sierra Trading Post, which is one hell of a deal.

Fantastic jacket. I have one and bought it on geartrade.com for $38. It was used but looked like it had been worn maybe once when I got it.

what will you be using it for and what is important to you? Just staying dry or are weight/packability/warmth/mobility/etc factors too?

I found a good deal on a marmot super mica and it is bad arse.

Breathable, packable rain jacket only (no insulation) - I would say Marmot Precip - a great little jacket light enough to backpack with, but very comfortable.

Marmot Precip

Best rain jacket I've owned. It's VERY breathable.

I like my cabelas guidewear. It has the uncanny ability to prevent rain if it is in the boat.
