The original plan was to do can lights. That's a LED light that lights up the world. No roof leaks, we were touching up the paint in a couple of spots when that picture was taken.

We did some pop in LED lights in our kitchen and the bad part is... my wife wants me to replace the others in the house w/LED, LOL.

Again... love those counter tops!

Got to love what the land can give you if you want it bad. These came from a dead water oak off my place.

Then shite happens.

No big deal. New blade cost around $13.50 each. I get around 450-500- bf per blade. The I sharpen the blade. get anywhere from 3- 5 sharpens.

I ended this morning with a nice stack on 1"x8"x9' oak boards. Moisture was at 22%. Should take about 1 1/2 months or less to get it to dry down to 11% or less.

These will be used for infill of doors. I have some nice 2x6's and 2x8's for the framing of the doors.

Doors will look like this one I built.

Looks like the old skeleton key locking system on that door. That's a lot of mortising to get the locking mechanism in that door. Not much meat on either side of the upright when done.

Goes with the house you are building with that salvaged wing. Nice looking door by the way.

Using the same door locks thru the inside of the house.

Takes about 20 minutes to mortise the hole.

Sounds like my old house. Every interior door has the old style skeleton key locks in them. The front and back doors are the only ones with the more modern barrel locks in them.

Do you have a designated mortiser for the doors or are you using a plunge router with a straight bit or possibly forstener bit and chisels????

Pretty sure you're not going real old school and chiseling all that out in 20 minutes. At least I know I couldn't.

The hole calls for a 5/8" wide, 4"x 3 3/4" deep pocket.

Mark it up, take a 5/8" drill bit. Add some tape at 3 3/4". Drill out, joining each hole a little down the line. Just chisel out. Use a 5/8" chisel on the ends to clean them even. I used a 2" chisel to clean up the sides.

I could always saw up as much as needed. There is a lot of work to take rough sawed lumber to a finish board.

Off the mill, air dry anywhere from 6 months to a year to bring the moisture down to 11% or less.

Then resaw the boards. Then pass one edge on a jointer. Then pass the boards on a planner.

Overall, I have easy 7K BF of oak into my guest house build. One big reason it has been taking me 3+ years to build.

Check this web site.

Maybe there is a sawer in your area that sells rough sawed lumber.

That door is sweet! I applaud all you finished carpentry-wood-working baws. My dad and my bro-in-law are bad mofos too when it comes to woodworkin skills. I know I have it in me, just dont have the time or patience yet so I’m starting out with pallets. It really is a pain, but I like how when it doesn’t line up straight or it has gaps, I can say, “it’s pallets, it’s supposed to look weathered or unfinished and used or not be perfectly square.”

Built this combo from a thought in my head (and some pintrest pics from the wife). Needed a central command station to put keys, keys, wallets, sunglasses, shoes, charge devices, etc. when we walk in the door to not have shite all over the counters and dining table. It works out pretty well.

Then this little guy to hang the kids backpacks and display more picture frames.

The best thing about pallets is they're free for the taking. The lumber yard near my house use to love seeing me taking several of them at a time to build bins for my compost piles for my vegetable garden.

Hardest part is tearing those things apart to use individual pieces if needed.

Built a tall stand up work table for a planer and a drum sander or for anything I need to do while standing. I used a free heavy metal scaffolding section, sand blasted it and painted it black. I then planed about an with of an inch off the top of salvaged 2x8 weathered treated pine from our high school baseball bleachers. Welded a frame on top on the scaffold to better secure the wood top. pics soon after I take a few.

Nascar, those are fabulous!

My Dad built furniture for all the kids out of cedar. Every time a storm would take down a limb off the cedar tree, he'd make a chair or table.
