How is this table holding up? As soon as I think Im ready to start building these things for some folks I find 10 separate woodworking forums saying the Ana-White tables of the world are bound to crack/cup... Just curious if you've noticed anything

I guess this table is 4 years old now and no issues whatsoever. This was my first table build and my only method of fastening was glue and kreg screws. I'm using biscuits now, and that really tightens things up.
i think a big thing is (for a novice like myself), if you are buying dimensional lumber from HD or Lowes, make sure to get the dryest you can find.
I have about 8 tables out in the world and haven't heard of any issues so far.
Eta- I'm about start a dining table and barn door for some folks, and it's going to be stained grey. Pretty excited about trying something new.

Unless the breadboard ends warp the table should be fine. I've built a couple though they were not from dimensional lumber and I used stopped mortise and tenons on them.
Et fix spelling.

I usually lurk, but I just finished a coffee table and I have to share with someone.
I got a welder to make the frame; other than that I did everything by hand. The wood is old pecky cypress paneling. I didn't want to put glass on top, so I used two part epoxy to fill all the holes. Sanding epoxy level then polishing it to get it back clear was a pain in the arse, but I still prefer this to a plate of glass over my wood.
Never posted a picture before, hopefully I did this right.

Well done. I have one very similar but used Brazilian walnut. FIL did the welding.

I am not a woodworker (though I hope to have my stepfather teach me when they're able to get back in their house from the flood) but I have read the comments for a lot of Anna's plans before asking him to build for me. I know people have commented on the tables giving suggestions to new builders on how to join the top and bottom to allow for expansion/contraction.
I am so glad this thread was linked earlier. It's taken me most of the evening but I read the whole thing. There are so many fabulous projects. I look forward to seeing more.

Almost to 50 pages.
Last think I made was a bird trap. I made one when I was a kid and caught a few doves. My son wants to try it out, there's a ton of doves that hang out near my house.

If you are using latex paint as a stain, a trick to try is put some paint in a can and then add water to thin it out. Test, wipe away. Add more water till you get to were you like it. Also, sand any wood first. That opens the pours. If you are using framing lumber, it is passed thru a very high speed planner that closes up the pours of the wood that acts as a wax. One will get uneven staining if you don't sand.

I ripped some 3/4"x1/2" pieces of wood in long strips. Then I made a pyramid out of it. Prop the trap up with a stick and attach a piece of monofilament to it. You put some feed under the trap and when a bird gets under it you pull the stick and the trap falls onto the bird.
That's was our x-box one summer. We must have caught 80 pop chocks and doves. We would let them go.

I would like to know how many pop chocks my benjamin pump killed when i was a kid

I really want to make a bird trap with my boys as well. We watch survival shows together and i think it would be a fun practical project.
