Here's a couple things I've built over the past year.
Dog sleigh bed
Bathroom vanity out of 120 year old reclaimed cypress. Gonna put a copper miners pan vessel sink and pump style faucet on it. Used big square nails for door handles.
Flag made from corrugated tin (before I put the stars on it).
A bench made from a new piece of pine 2x12 that I distressed with my grinder and a saw and stained.
An outdoor TV cabinet from new cypress.
A TV frame from reclaimed cypress.
A platform bed because my wife wanted to replace our expensive sleigh bed. I can't complain though because it can support a truck and with our memory foam matress there is zero movement. Can't feel her get out of bed to make me coffee.

I actually didn't make the headboard for it. It was from half of a bench and I made the frame and put the feet and stained it.

Looks all good.
For those that would like some scrap rough saw lumber free, I do have some that comes off my mill that I just burn off. A lot of it can be used for small projects. If interested, let me know and I will start putting it aside. Right now, I think I have some oak and pine that I am fixing to move to a burn pile. Most are 1 bys that could be up to 10" wide. Really don't know for sure.
Oh, you have to come in get it. Just outside of New Roads,

I will check to see what I have today. Put up a email address so I can send my contact info.

Oh, you will need a truck. Boards are 12' to 14' long. Could cut them shorter if need be.

Fish that reminds me of a question I meant to ask you. My cousin just bought a mill and is playing around a bit. He offered me some freshly cut oak. How long does it need to dry out before working with it? And what's that process like?
If it's white oak, it's hard to dry without putting weight on top of it. Personally, I wouldn't mess with white oak.
Drying times are about a year or more per inch of thickness for hardwoods. That should be around 7-9 percent moisture content.

Canu please send link to that kit?

how wide is the board for your outdoor TV cabinet? I am wanting to make something similar and just don't know where to start.

quote:For the frame, I used cypress 1x8s. The TV mount I used can tilt but not swivel, so with the thickness of the TV and the mount, 8" gave me about an inch of clearance between the doors and top-front of the TV with the doors closed.

Basically, buy a wall mount and install it on the back of the TV and measure the depth as it will be mounted on the wall.
I bought that cypress at Doug Ashy. Tongue and groove and regular.
You can buy TV mounts on Amazon for less than $15.

definitely buy tv mounts online. I couldnt believe the difference in price on ebay vs walmart. Walmarks was triple the price for some reason.

Fish I'd love to come be an apprentice of yours for a day sometime
I'm just a young college student still trying to buy my tools and stuff, but if fascinated by you guys' work and am eager to learn. I try to teach myself via YouTube and reading on here but trial and error is definitely the best way to go. It's hard to visualize just by reading

Any time. More then willing to show how things are done in real life. So, when you want to start?

Put in a long day and I just about finished the trailer build. The real test will come when I drop a 3500lb log on it. Maybe tomorrow.

First person with there email, I will email my contact info. I have 8-12 oak boards(maybe more) that are about 4" to 10" wide and are about 14'
long.
Once I start sawing again, I will post up on what scrap boards I have for those that want them.
OK, drying time. It is said that it takes one year per inch. Throw that rule out for us down here in the south. To get to about a 10% moisture level, in the summer time if the boards are out the weather, less then 5 months. One can speed that up to 3 months if one would stack and sticker the boards in the house attic. Putting a small fan to blow a little air, drop that time to around 3 weeks or less.
Any wide oak will want to cup. If air drying, once stacked and stickered, a lot of weight or the stack needs to be banded.
