Gonna get her a pellet rifle, she aint ever gonna shoot it, but if she does, what's the best choice? It's gonna sit around forever. She's 85 and might not be able do more than 1 shot on that next mountain lion attack.

Yeah, it's probably a big house cat, but she did have a bobcat that I killed a few years ago.

Any .22 caliber break action air rifle willl kill a cat.

A bobcat? I would get her a single shot rimfire.

She has shotguns, pistols and plenty of rifles at her disposal at any time. She just recently started wanting an air rifle.

I would get a .22 caliber Gamo. 150.00 with a scope. A good shot placement would kill a bobcat. Anywhere else and at least it wouldn’t come around for a while.

Get her a fifth of Crown Royal.

She'll forget the air rifle.

I mostly agree, but she had a little half blind dog that I was really crazy about. I was afraid that cat would get him, Otherwise, I would be live and let live.

Am I missing something? The title of this thread involves a "mountain lion," but people are referring to bobcat. Two entirely different critters.

I sure as hell wouldn't want to face a mountain lion with a pellet rifle.

That’s insane.

No doubt there are some bad arse air rifles out there. But if I was scared for my life from a large cat, I’d want something that could throw a lot more shots down range if I missed and pissed the cat off.

I forget the brand, but my brother is into target-shooting air rifles. He has a couple that you fill up an air tank, and you can get a bunch (I think 10 or so, maybe it's 20?) shots without refilling. They ain't cheap.
I think he's got some in 22, 25 or so, maybe a 30 cal.

I've seen him hit quarter-sized groups at 100 yds

Just curious with all the guns in your house……why does she want to take it down with an air gun?

She has plenty of guns at her house, and if I thought she really had a mountain lion, between what's at her house or ours, I am pretty sure we could find the right thing to get rid of it. I think she just has a big house cat hanging around, and I want to get her an air rifle, because it might cause less trouble, since she does have other neighbors kind of near. I want her to be able to shoot at it if she wants though.

Around here, there's always a lot of talk among the really old people about mountain lions/panthers, like I'm sure there is in almost any really rural area. I was kind of being sarcastic in the OP, bout it being a real mountain lion. There might be some deep in the National forest, but I don't think she's got one hanging around her neighborhood.
