I can 100% tell you that on the Buffalo River you will see giant gar come swimming by your kayak. They are the apex predator fish on the river.

Years ago I flew out of Ely, Mn on a float plane into Canada to go canoeing, camping and fishing on a big trail where you canoe lake to lake and carry your gear across trails to each lake for a week. Pure wilderness, freeze dried food plus eat what you catch and only a satellite phone for emergency

Caught over 300 smallmouth bass and 100 northern pike. There’s a lake connected to Wicksteed lake full of largemouth bass, only lake up there with largemouth

Yeah. Those rivers and creeks get real angry, real quick. My wife and I will park at the popular camping grounds then hike a mile or two in either direction on the rivers to get away from people. Nothing like the quietness and wade fishing.

Yeah be really watchful of weather. They can jump really really fast.

As far as tactics, anything that mimics crawfish even a little. The little rebel crawfish crankbaits, tube jigs, crawfish jigs. Just be aware that they are addictive. I love trout because they only live in pretty places, but smallmouth are by far the most fun thing to fight that I've found short of bowfin.

That’s a good one. I’ve been catching them daily, but nothing that size since the spawn. They’ve been schooling last couple days. It’s been fun but wish they’d be bigger, they still hit like a freight train.

I went in November on my way back from visiting a client in Midland. Office was like you dont want a flight? I took a vacation friday and stopped on my drive back.

Im leaving houston at 3 tomorrow. Stopping in Dallas for the night to party with some friends. Then heading up to ponca. Looking at weather something should be good to fish up there. If not ill just shoot over to fish caddo and ouchita rivers. Both are very underrated
