Wow that is nasty. Wish him a speedy recovery for me.

Glad he is well.
Looking at the pics, curious as to why they didn't put some caps on the end of the steps to avoid something like this.

From the pics that appears to be the only step where the cap thing is missing (of course it woule be that one)
Most of them have a cap like this one

Maybe he hit all of them and that's the only one he noticed.

We go without incedents for a while and get complacent. Always check your gear. I am guilty of this.
Glad he's doing better. It will be one he'll of a scar.

Same here, My dad likes to go fishing by himself and it scares the crap out of me. It doesn't help that he is a generally clumsy person.
Stay alert guys. I'm happy your brother is ok.

He needs to start thinking of the story to tell the ladies in the future. The "I fell" line isn't the best. Perhaps he could say that a 400lb wild boar caught him and he had to kill it with his bare hands. Or, that he was attacked by a black panther.
Oh, and THANKS FOR NOT TAKING THE HUNK OF HIS LEG MEAT OFF THE LADDER!!!!!

He is lucky, that was just millimeters from the artery.

Hell, that was to close to the family package.
Guess he will not be heading to that stand anytime soon.

If history has taught us anything, they usually only attack when they have the advantage of numbers, thus creating fear and intimidation.

I'm glad your Brother is going to be ok. Needless to say, this could have been fatal. He is very lucky!
I had the same exact stick ladder accident four years ago with similar results near my ankle. After talking to many people about my accident, I was surprised how common tree stand accidents and/or near misses happen.
