I have a 2008 27hp prodrive. It only has 90 hours on it. It starts up immediately but when I put it in gear and try to give it some gas it kills. It will go into gear without killing. Only when I throttle it. In neutral it will throttle fine. I added Seafoam to the tank and am letting it run awhile. Any ideas?

Sounds like a carb issue to me. Clean it up and see what happens

Does it have an inline fuel filter? Look at the element inside. The elements in some Briggs filters come loose restricting flow and can be most noticeable at lower rpms. This happened to me. Ironically, if I could get it past idle it would run fine because the pump is so strong.

Have you ever reset the valves?

I have a water separator that I change 6 months ago.

Never reset the valves. Had a tune up done 2 years Ago. Only ran the boat a couple times this year

My buddy takes his ProDrive to get the valves reset probably after every other season. Before they are worked on the motor has ideling issues and after he gets the valves reset it will idle forever.

I’m dropping it off tom at southern mud motors in Lockport. The owner is meeting me there after church so lock it up. Super nice guy.

Unlike the 36hp Prodrive (Briggs engine), the 27hp Prodrive is a Kohler engine with hydralic lifters and doesn't need the valves reset.
