Moving to Boise Idaho

It is beginning to look like I will be taking a position in Boise towards the end of the summer. I just graduated from LSU and love to be outdoors. What are some of the popular outdoor activities in the area and what is the best way to get involved in these (besides flying solo)? Additionally, does anyone have any incite as to what parts of town to begin searching for housing?
TIA
TIA

Former co worker moved up that way and loves it last time we chatted.

Amazing amount of public land where you can get in to just about anything you want to. I am jealous (except winter).

You are lucky. Get ready for night skiing, skiing, snowboarding, rafting, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, hunting and fishing.

Buy a house. They are experiencing a housing boom. Capitalize.

Elk hunting, antelope hunting, kayaking on Payette River, incredible fly fishing, turkey, bear, mule deer, chukar, grouse, big horn sheep, and some other stuff.

Lots of trails in and around town for running and biking.
World class rafting on the Salmon a few hours northeast of town.
World class fishing, camping, hunting a few hours northeast of town in the Sawtooths, the Church, Selway-Bitteroot, Nez Perce. Largest contiguous wilderness in the lower 48.
Some awesome lakes a few hours north of town for weekend boating.
Rafting, hiking, and canyons on the Snake River west of town.
Boise is one of the low key hotspots for outdoors lovers.
Real estate is expensive compared to Idaho, but cheap compared to PNW, CA, CO, and Jackson. I can't help with recommendations, if you are fresh out of school probably find the hot part of town to rent in for your first 12-24 months.
Lots of CA and PNW transplants and tech company growth.
The best time to move to Boise was 5 years ago. The second best time is now.
If you like the outdoors and a "hip" community without the extremism found in Boulder, Denver, Portland, Austin, etc then you will love Boise.
As for meeting people into outdoors shite, if I were moving there I would become a regular at the local hike, bike, outdoor shops, a few coffee shops and breweries. Like attracts like, you will meet people with similar interests.
You could also go the tech route and check out local Facebook groups, Reddit groups, Meetup groups. If you are not ugly then take advantage of Bumble and Tinder.
Boise and Idaho in general is like CO, WY, and MT were 20 years ago before they blew up. An outdoor paradise.
Pull the trigger, don't hesitate.

You're fortunate Idaho, NE Oregon and the Spokane area in Washington are amazing for outdoorsmen.

Very true. Couer and Sand Point are wonderful places that haven't been overrun yet. The Wilderness areas of Central Idaho are some of the wildest country in the lower 48.
You'll never run out of things to do there.

Even if you are ugly...not a bad idea

Awesome area if you like the outdoors. I worked there for 16 weeks back in 11. The town is really clean and progressive compared to Louisiana. The weather is not that bad in Boise but when you go uphill it becomes snow central.. Check out Idaho City, and McCall...To many things to do...Get a good 4x4, camping gear, and a camera and you are set.

That’s one hell of a sales pitch there. I think I’m ready to move to Idaho after reading that. but I’ll probably never leave Louisiana.

Spent two years working out of Boise. Best place in the US IMO. Conservative but not religious, phenomenal demographics, public land everywhere, enough culture to keep you busy, great beer and decent food. Clean walkable downtown area. Tons of easy hiking.

Idaho is the last lower 48 mountain state that hasn't been overrun with wealthy Californians.
