Rode this morning with a buddy. It was miserable due to being in horrible horrible shape. Thought I was gonna die. So naturally I now am considering buying a bike.

Question is, what are some brands I need to be looking at? Used would be great and I want to stay under a thousand. Preferably way under a thousand.

Huffy? I had a 10 speed once.

All stupid shite aside, treks are supposedly pretty good. According to the woman who is a triathlete.

Trek, Giant, Specialized. Prces vary and so does fit and feel. Like handguns, go out and try each brand

I'm a big guy. I ride this. Very lite, very tough. ~$500-$600 new. Nice wide 29" tires. Weighs less than my son's 24" diamondback.

Eta: it's a diamondback overdrive V.

Etaa: I have a more prostate friendly seat than what comes standard.

I've been crushing around on a trek 4300 recently and like it better than my giant.

This.

Also, unless you are sure you are going to use it a lot, buy used. You can get more for your money. Lots of folks think they want to get into biking, spend a grand on a nice bike and sell it on Craigslist a few months later

This is what I have. Bought it in 2006 and over time I have taken it to the BR trails, trails in Mobile, trails in Boloxi, and Oak Mountain. Oak Mountain;s 17 mile loop is a blast. I use it in the neighborhood with the family as well. For the price it has kept up with my neighbors 1300 Giants and others just fine. Great bike for the price and how much use and abuse I actually give it

I did this for my kids off Craigslist. Son got a 17" Specialized very new condition for 150 and my little girl also got a very new like Specialized for $25. Both were excelent buys

I had a Gary Fisher years ago. I am sure you could find a used one on Craigslist.
