Only one trip in, but here goes:

Pros:
Very quiet
Lift assist in deployment is very helpful
Operation is mostly smooth
Wide range of power settings
Directional arrow is helpful using Livescope
Latch system is the best I have ever used. No more standing on the mount to get it to disengage.

Cons:
First of all, and this may end up being a deal-breaker, I never achieved satellite lock*. So, no way to test anchor mode. Hopefully, I did something wrong.
Lift assist does little to soften the downward movement. I crushed a spinning reel.
Movement of the motor is somewhat smooth, but you can feel that you are forcing an internal motor to move without power. No nearly as smooth as a non-motorized cable steer motor.

MotorGuide Tour Pro 82lb-45"-24V Pinpoint GPS HD+ SNR Bow Mount Cable Steer - Freshwater

* lack of lock was caused by low battery. As soon as I replaced the 3 year old batteries, I got satellite lock. I will post a follow up after this weekend when I get a chance to use anchor lock and the course feature.

Minn Kota > Motorguide

I used to be a motorguide guy, but Minn Kota is far superior with the newer technology stuff.

Will be keeping a close eye on your updates here. Still haven't ordered the Eyra yet because still wavering on the trolling motor/electronics package.
I want the Motorguide Tour Pro but they really need to have nailed it for me to take it over the Ultrex.

Don’t put your rod and reel underneath where trolling motor sits

And are people so dang out of shape they need lift assist to deploy and pick up a trolling motor smoothly? I’ve never even thought about it hell my string broke I have to pry the locking rod back with a screwdriver and pick it up by the shaft

I'll never stop doing this. Was kinda excited about buying the new reel

Possibly, but with the motor and GPS stuff in that head, it makes the unit top heavy. Having that little shock in there is great.

Have done that so many times. This one has super easy latches to operate by hand. It's featured in one of the youtube video reviews.

Anchor lock and compass feature rock. Really enjoying this thing.

good news on the spotlock. How's the pedal feel compared to a regular Tour? I prefer tension as I kinda of lean on mine, the Ultrex and Ghost are too soft but I haven't run them enough to adjust to it.

Old boat. It will get moved to the new one.

The pedal feels pretty good. You have 5 tension settings. I am on 4/5. The only thing different from the really good feeling ones is, you are forcing the spot lock motor to move when it doesn't want to. That detracts from the smoothness. Kinda like turning a drill chuck with your hand. They really should have come up with a way to have that connection disabled until you activate it. Since I have never used an Ultrex, Ghost or Force, I really don't know if those are like that as well.

Get one of these or make your own. Cheap and easy solution to keep from breaking rods.

Oh, it comes with one. I just did not install it because this motor will be transferred to a new boat later this month, and I did not want to cut the thing for the current boat, then find out it's too short for the new one. I might zip tie a piece of pool noodle under there as a temporary fix.

I'm sure that spinning rod appreciates this explanation Not sure why you would list this in the con part of your review since it comes with a cup guard to prevent damaging rods. Seems like that would be in the pros section

Because it does assist on the deploy part at the very end of movement. It doesn't coming back in. Yeah, it comes with a stop, but that stop is going to hit hard. I just thought it should work on both ends of movement. Maybe others would not list it as a con. It is for me. I would like to just let go and not have is come crashing down.

I'm not sure we are talking the same thing, but maybe we are. Look at pic below. The black "cup guard" mounts to floor of boat and receives the stabilizing support (it is fixed, never moves). It just prevents you mistakingly laying your rod in path of stabilizing bar.

As far as assist on retraction, they all seem to hit pretty hard to me.

Ah, cool.

Terrible device. Keeps you from having to buy new spinning reels.

Who sells these cups ?

I haven't yet broken a rod with my Ghost, but I have hit a couple of them. That cup looks like a creative solution to my occasional lack of awareness.

Does that motor have cable steering, or is it "fly-by-wire" like the Ghost ?
