Why are they calling that bayou chene? Are there multiple bayou chenes?

I think its the Avoca Island Cutoff if you are looking at google maps.

There are multiple but the one they are referring to is East of the Amelia east of Morgan City. It intersects the intercoastal west of Bayou Black and goes south. The sink the barge to prevent backwater flooding.
Here is the link to the water gage we operate for flooding events like this. When the discharge goes near zero (assuming the Bayou Boeuf locks are closed and there are not drastic rains over Lake Palourde) the barge is doing its job. 073814675, Bayou Boeuf at Amelia, LA

Can someone explain this barge they keep talking about sinking? I don't understand why they are having to sink a barge somewhere?
This is where the barge will go as well as the $80mm floodgate

What's the difference between this and Belle River? I see both names for the same stream.

Could you imagine though, If what the Chinese Professor States is true.
“If the MS River routed through the Atchafalaya all of New Orleans and South would be underwater in 3 Days”!
That’s some crazy shite right there!
So we get Morgan City, Houma, Thib residents here and the divert the river and sink N.O. Again!!!! LOL

Google maps labels most of the canals and bayous in that area as avoca island cutoff. Bayou Chene connects the intercoastal to the Atchafalaya River south of Bayou Schaffer

How would NOLA be under water?

Belle River is a community on Lake Verret.

They guy says in the video that once the water diverts to the Atchafalaya that the Ms below BR pretty much becomes a low spot and all the water from the Gulf comes flowing in from the gulf and over runs everything. Has a lot to do with the amount of sedimentation holding everything together would also be displaced. Pretty crazy. Worth watching the video it’s only about 4 min. You have to read the caption because it’s difficult t to understand with his accent. Cool video though about sand bars and sedimentation dispersement throughout the river.

50 years ago the Atchafalaya near MC was one of the deepest rivers in the world. Controlled flow has caused so much sedimentation that the river is now covered with sand bars and needs to to be dredged every few years. A proposal was made years ago to permanently divert the lower Atchafalaya through the Calumet Cut into the delta. Unfortunately this was shot down. I don't know what will come of this Morganza Spillway opening, but to say people in the MC/Berwick area are fearful is an understatement. Hopefully the structure does it's job and won't fail.

They need to figure out a way to send this water down to the Dulac, Cocodrie area to help the marsh.

yes but the levees will prevent the water from entering NOLA Right?

No you got to watch the video towards the end he highlights the whole area that would be underwater. It’s well worth the watch.

There would have to be a lot of water for it to reach that far...with the barge in place the water will drain out of the Penchant.
