I've freshened old ones on private lands, but never started a new one and never on WMA's.

What are you guys using for scent in south Louisiana and when do you start a new one? now is my feeling and with a pre-orbital gland scent

Is it a crap shoot to do on a WMA being anyone can't hunt over it? My fear is it will attract just and many hunters as deer.

My spot in mind has a couple younger bucks on it and it's 800 to 1,000 yard walk from any road or trail, so not the easiest to get to.

If deer are already in the area why make things more complicated.

If you are where the deer wanna be then all you have to do is show up, no gadgets, no scents etc. just hunt with correct wind/thermals.

Just do some scrapes 10 yards from the parking lot to throw off the other hunters. Throw in a few fake tracks in the mud for good measure.

I see the point, the couple bucks I've seen are not really shooters and they are inconsistent. The reason is to possibly get the attention of a shooter that is yet to be seen. It's next to a large bedding area, so it's possible the older bucks are in there, but not coming out in my area... yet....

I've done mock scrapes on public. Find heavy travel corridor and it will attract deer. I haven't had any real success with them. A few nighttime pics.

The problem with mock scrapes is that you need to really freshen them up every 2-3 days, and often that's not really possible on public unless you leave really nearby.

They'll start making FB posts about people not having respect anymore since they went down the trail past them to hunt

Yeah, agree that would suck.

I've not taken this approach on other scrapes I found. Freshen them up once to get things kicked back off, set a camera, but don't really go back to it, just hunt the wind around it if a target shows up.

Not gonna lie, I put some flagging in a different direction toward a high volume pig area. They won't be too happy when they find what's on the other end of that 100 yard walk... or they take care of some pigs. win win

Make you a scrape and piss in it. Put up a camera. You would be surprised to see what all visits it

You would have a bunch of guys hunting from the seat of their pickup trucks!
