We are in Holmes County, near Lexington. No rut activity yet. Usually happens between the 20th of Dec and 5th of January. Just now seeing the first scrapes last weekend

Copiah Co. MS
hunted from Sunday to today and no sign what so ever.
We had a few scraps but they don’t look like they’ve been visited in a week.
The bucks on camera look like there necks are still skinny and there glands show no sign of darkening.

Last year they seemed to rut about a week into January. Looks like it will be that way again this year.

I’ve hunted a bit in Copiah County over the years. It seemed to really get going around Jan 1.

I’m hopeful that it works out that way.
I’m taking that whole week off of work to hunt.

Killed a buck on Tuesday SE of Centreville and he stood at the edge of the woods watching a doe for about 4-5 minutes before he slowly walked out.
He was keeping an eye on her, but wasn’t making his way to her.
His tarsal glands were dark.

It’s about to get started, but if it was in full swing he would’ve gone straight at her.

Killed tonight in Madison County
Chasing a doe at 4:30.
19 wide
190#

We kill a nice deer like this every year between the 11th and 14th. Heavy rut activity is most often seen between Christmas and New Years on this farm.

Hardly any scrapes are rubs around our fields or woods yet.

What I've deduced is that every year one or more early does come into heat or get very close at this point, therefore our luck.

I have seen very little indications that there are any non-gay deer in the area I hunt. Jefferson Co. Mississippi.

A couple of scrapes and few rubs. Nothing impressive. Put the trail cam up over a tree that always has scrapes under it and already had one. After two weeks only a spike showed any interest in the scrape or licking branch.

All of the other bucks were just passing by not even stopping.

A big bodied seven point I killed on Dec. 4 had some bare spots on his back, which I assume was from a fight. This was an old buck. I want to see the one that had his head twisted around. He was in the vicinity (25 yards) of three does but wasn't showing any interest in them.

Dec. 23. is usually the rut explosion date on my place.

Wonder what all the coming rain will do to them. I think they will move more after tending to al their washed up scrapes.
What ya'll think ?

East Central Wikinson County, MS.

We're starting to see some scrapes and have seen a good amount of fighting on camera. Last week we saw some bucks walking through fields with their heads up looking, but that could have been to establish dominance. We have seen some does getting pushed by bucks on camera, but we usually have a"mini rut" during the first week of December. most of the usual scrape trees do not have any love letters yet. We've found one good scrape and seen a buck checking it. We put a camera on it, but we've only seen a few does and small bucks so far.

Our rut is usually the first week of January. This year we'll have a new moon during that time, so we might see more movement around January 16th.

I shot an 8 point this morning near Centreville. Used the Primos Can 5 minutes before he came out looking. A doe also crossed past him about 10 minutes before. She was in a hurry like something was behind her. Another member saw a 6 point chasing a doe.

Thanks. First one in 4 years and first deer I’ve shot with my son with me. Finally found a good club and joined last year. That one was deer #20 and buck #6 I believe. Good year so far and should start seeing more bucks soon. We’ve been seeing small bucks but not many shooters yet. That should change over the next couple weeks.
