It was the most impressive lightning storm I've ever seen.

Meh, seen worse.

We got the camera's out and tried to capture some of it from Grand Isle. It was just a little too far away to get some good shots, because of the clouds between us. It was almost constant for 30-40 minutes.

Well, I guess there is that. I was talking more across the entire construction industry, marine and on land.

I think they are one of the biggest as far as construction in general goes. I had no idea about their marine division until today.

Oh and congrats.

I was in my 31 CH out there, but missed the storm--was there another 31 out there?

No clue, some of the guys from out boat were talking to them and said they got caught out in the storm and had to hunker down behind a drill ship.

I'm just glad it wasn't us because we weren't in a 31' boat.

If that was you and your crew, damn fine boat...

This sounds pretty familiar, I might have been your "local intel". Were you guys in a 22-25ft Glacier Bay? We overnighted Friday around Na Kika and also had a pretty spectacular light show from the Mars area.

We were in an sportcat with old 2 stroke mercs. Some buddies were in a glacier bay with a yellow horseshoe on the side. We caught 4 yft but missed on a 150+ that got tail wrapped and broke the hook cord on a jig. We stayed by the drill ship all night hiding from the waves

Well, how did you all do? Might be heading that way this wknd

See my post above. Never made it to na kika due to wind stiffening and wanting to stay close to drill ship. Water was green until almost daylight when blue water pushed in.

Not positive it was a glacier bay, but we were unloading fish in the blue 25 competition when some one in your group asked which direction we fished, and I mentioned to check out the drill ship. Glad you guys had a successful trip.

The Kiewitt yard there in Ingleside is the busiest ive ever seen it in the past 5 years or so. They have about 4 rigs near completion at the moment. Really is gnarly to see them start moving out.

I use to build them.

I did a lot of work on the Bigfoot living quarters. Right now we have 2 decks that are mirror images of each going into 2??' Of water. Unfortunately you going to have to take your boats to Africa to fish them.

We also have a big Williams floater that should be sailing sometime in the early part of next year which will be in the gulf.

It was probably us then. I didn't actually see you guys as I was parking the truck and they didn't tell me about your conversation until we were out of the marina. I think your info did a couple things: A) bummed us out on confirmation that there was no rip since we were really hoping to troll some. B) helped settle on the decision to go SE vs S. Also, we stopped at Elf on the way in and picked up a 30-ish yft on chunk on the first drift.

Do they have to build those thing on water or are they launched after completion like a large ship? Also, what anchors the big floating rigs in place?

Didn’t know Kiewit was into marine cons – in the Midwest and north they are big on infrastructure (roads etc) and the energy Co. I work for has them as the prime contractor on large dam projects – they don’t do the electrical work but all the civil components. Overall a quality firm

They build them in dry docks in Korea.

Not as many as you think went to gif.

There is a graving dock at gulf marine. Build the structure under sea level, open gate let water come in and structure floats up. There will be quite a few people move to Houston from GIF.
