Massive Blue Marlin caught

I just stumbled across this video showing a massive blue marlin being hauled into a boat. The caption says it’s off the coast of Venezuela.
What I found interesting was the massive fish they cut out of its stomach. Do they normally eat fish that big? Anyone have any good stories of interesting things they have pulled out of a fished stomach?
Sorry the only video I found was on Facebook.

Found a rocking chair one time.

Looks like a big tuna. Wonder if it was still edible too.

Looks to me like they are commercial tuna fishermen who caught a tuna and then the marlin came up and ate the tuna they caught. See the way it looks like he cut a line from the tuna after releasing the tuna from the marlin stomach? There is no such thing as commercial marlin fishing for consumption that I’m aware of and that was def a commercial long line fishing operation.

I'm pretty sure there is commercial marlin fishing in Central and South America.
I've seen Marlin on the menu in a few S. Florida restaurants back in the 2000's, but not recently.

Caught a red fish with a half a tube of caulk in it’s stomach.

Should have weighed it before cutting the tuna out.

Thanks for sharing this video.
That is an absolute monster of a marlin and that tuna is every bit of 60#s, likely more. Can’t really tell how big the tuna is in the video.
We’ve been fortunate to catch a few blue marlin between my dad, my brothers and I over the last 25 years and I’ve seen a good seen some 650#+ marlin caught by boats and captains who billfish 8 months out of the year. I’d love to catch couple more and one over 800# but it’s an expensive arse fish to target. If I catch another I’m sure it’ll be on accident while tuna fishing. Must be nice to have a $3-4M rig to target billfish.
I’ll go ahead and say that there’s no way I’d be able to land one of that size on rod and reel. Even in peak shape. That’s a bad arse fish. Incredible.
Wish dad was still with us to make another couple runs. We joked dad had a horseshoe up his arse because he was always catching huge fish or killing monster deer in bad conditions.

That’s incredible. That fish must have been a grander.

Barefoot dude in shorts and a tank top running around the deck of a commercial fishing boat. Must be Mexico.

Not hard to believe a marlin that size would target a YFT in the 40-60 lb range. We have caught marlin half that size with 15-20 lb blackfin tuna.

Fricking long line boats.

long liners and super trawlers: its not a targeted fish, but it definitely gets caught and kept commercially... its not advertised, but it happens routinely....marlin meat is damn good
there is a pic of one pushing 2k pounds, a tonner, that was caught in a trawl like this..Ill try and find it

Marlin is truly an amazing creature....here it is as a baby:
To something as majestic as this:
or even bigger....quite a few experts say this is a 2K pound fish...captain that hooked it said its easily between 2000-3000 pounds (and he boated a 1300 pound marlin)
here she is greyhounding:

There is definitely commercial marlin fishing in Central and South America and in Portugal. Pretty good eating...not noticeably different than sword fish. Common menu item in high end Mediterranean in Europe. I imagine they also catch them commercially in other parts of north Africa and the Mediterranean but I don't know for certain. Probably a by catch of long line sword fishing mostly but I could be wrong.
Smaller tuna and bonito and the like make excellent marlin baits. Most Granders probably do not survive being released because there is no way to match tackle to a fish that size that will allow catching and reviving in a timely fashion. They may as well be eaten as released only to sink a few hours later. The same is true of all light tackle big game fishing....reviving a 150 pound tarpon caught on a fly rod is a science and even when done perfectly very few tarpon survive the experience. Were I the Tarpon I would far rather it be up to me to live or die after wards so its best to try to revive them but very few make it. I personally have quit catching big fish on light tackle because of this....its a blast but a 100 pound pacific sail is to valuable a resource and to great an animal for me to kill simply because I want to catch another one on a flyrod...
