Gentlemen, let's get this thread going.

So, I've been seeing a few does come out to my box stand in rural Tangipahoa (Loranger/Husser area) this past week, and there is a young 5pt on another piece of land I hunt on, but that's about it. I shot two good bucks out there from my box stand late December-early January, with the big buck in early January.

Unfortunately, I have final exams this week and next, so I am holed up studying for the time being. I will be in my stand morning and evening come December 6. When I've finished, I'll probably spend all day out there some days.

Additionally, here's a map from the LDWF constructed with data gathered by Dave Moreland (LDWF guy), but deer are weird and there are a lot of factors that go into the rut so...

LA Estimated Deer Breeding Periods

Godspeed, good luck, and happy hunting to y'all.

It will heat up about the same time this year in whatever area you hunt as it does every year. Good bet is if you killed two mature bucks during daylight hours in south Louisiana they were rutting an the deer in that area will be rutting about the same time this year.

I can tell you from years of experience that up north where Union and Lincoln parish meet it's usually the week after Thanksgiving.

So now

In this case, not so much. The only factor is photoperiod causing individual does to come into estrous. As others have said it will happen about when you’ve seen it in previous years.

Bucks are chasing right now in North Caddo. Had 4 good bucks killed at our lease last week and many small bucks seen chasing.

Sounds like the OP is trying to Will the rut to start. Agree with others. It’ll start about the same time it did last year in a particular area.

Ours is always...ALWAYS Thanksgiving week or the week after. So that's when I plan my vacation...like right now.

This year, rut was done 2 weeks ago.

Eta-3 year old me stood up in theater during bambi and said "Choot em"

Photoperiod is not nearly the only factor or even a prime factory of driving the rut in Louisiana or the South for that matter. If that was the case deer in Louisiana would not rut from September-February in all different parts of the state. They would all be on a similar schedule if that were the case. Genetics as well as other land/weather factors play a big roll. Photoperiod is more a a driving factor in the North.
