The Louisiana Lifetime license is the best deal around for $500. I got one for myself and son 4 years ago and it has nearly paid for itself by now. I do not understand why more people dont take advantage of this. Even as a resident, I was paying about $90/year in license fees with freshwater fishing, saltwater fishing, General hunting, big game hunting, archery, muzzleloader, La Duck stamp, etc. Plus if you ever have to move out of state you are covered and never have to pay the high non-resident fees

I agree. I have one and my three boys already have their certificates, ages 9 and twins 7.

I even bought one for crab traps. At 10 times the gear fee it pays for itself in no time plus I hate having to remember to renew a license. I also have the lifetime hunt/fish and my 3yr old has his certificate. My other son turns one on Dec. 28th and that will be his birthday present from his grand parents. I only wish that all of you lifetime licenses were on on card now I have two cards that look identical but one has hunt/fish the other has crab traps. Identical LADWF # and everything. Seems like it would be easier to issue one card that contains all your info for all lifetime licenses you may have. /rant

Agreed. Bought mine 10 years ago and it's come close to paying for itself already. If your under 40 its a no brainer. When I have kids hey will get lifetime liscenses right off the bat.

Plus, there's a price break for younger kids. I think the price goes up at 13 y/o, but not sure. The process is kind of hassle since it can only be done by mailing completed form to Baton Rouge. In addition, where the form calls for a "certified original birth certificate" (or something like that), what that really means is a notarized copy of the stamped original.

My opinion is that $300 for the hunting only is the best deal. I don't saltwater fish though, so it would take me around 20 years to justify paying an extra $200 for the fishing.

Like others said, factor in the hassle of having to remember buying a license.

I think there are three price levels.

0 - 2 years old
3 - 13
14+

IIRC its only $200 for the hunting and fishing if you buy it before they turn 3.

Life time hunt/fish

0-4 - $200
5-13 -$300
14+ - $500

Fish or Hunt

5-13 - $200
14+ - $300

Just picked one up for my son. FYI- The LDWF website list that an original birth cerftificate will be needed and not returned in order to purchase a lifttime liciense. This is not completely correct. You will not get the birth certificate back if you mail in the paperwork, but they will only need the original to make a copy if you buy it at the headquarters on Quail Dr. in Baton Rouge.

Needlessly more complicated for those of us doing it by mail. AFTER having the appliication sent back to us, we called the office. Turns out all you need to do is send them a notarized copy of the stamped original birth certificate. I don't know why the application doesn't just go ahead and state this....

Thats why I started this post. So many in Louisiana dont even know Lifetime Licenses exist, or what a great deal it is compared to other state programs of the expense of having to buy non-resident licenses if you ever have to move.

When jimbeaux 82 says "you will never have to buy another license if you move out of state", can I interpret that to mean this lifetime license applies to all states?

He didn't say that. He said "Plus if you ever have to move out of state you are covered and never have to pay the high non-resident fees"

Yes you can, but be prepared to pay fines for not having a hunting license. I haven't read the rules for these license, so I am not sure if the license still apply if you become a none-resident.
