Don’t get discouraged if the dog doesn’t show up soon. Exact same thing happened to my buddy looked for days and couldn’t find the dog. Month 1/2 later neighboring lease found the dog in the Marsh. Was extremely skinny but otherwise healthy. Don’t give up.

Best thing to do is put food and a kennel with a piece of familiar worn clothing in it ie a tshirt that your dad wore all day or something similar. Once the dog and gotten bored with the chase and realizes things are not quite right, he will back track looking for his peeps and in search of scents on where they have wondered off to without him. He will stay in general area for a few days in hopes of their return. Food and scent that he recognizes will keep him in area. He will only leave when he figures the food bowl aint gonna happen and the scent vanishes and he no longer senses anything familiar.

Years ago we were hunting PAC. It was barely light when a flight came by and we dropped a couple of birds. Our lab took off. On the second trip back he jumped in our boat with the second duck. Something jumped in right behind him. Needless to say we just about shite on ourselves. It was another lab that had been lost days before. Turned out a guy from Illinois had come down here to hunt with the dog and it got lost.
That was one happy dog to get in our boat.

I fished a lot of the duck ponds this morning. Didn’t see him. Going back after lunch and will keep an eye out for him.

I’d suggest posting on the cocodrie camp owners Facebook page as well.
Good luck - hope he shows up soon!

The old man was back out this morning but I haven’t heard anything from him yet. We have been wondering if something may have happened to the dog? Anyone ever see a dog drown or die while retrieving? Pretty sure it was too cold for alligators. The dog was healthy and didn’t appear sick that morning.

My dad had a crazy coondog when I was a kid, he'd take off running god knows what every once and a while and we would lose track of him.
We would leave a coat laying where we let him out of the truck and two or three days later he would be laying on it.
Happened numerous times
