My favorite rifle is the Kimber

But the best shooter I have is a Remington 700 BDL.

The new trigger is fricking awesome. You take a stock low end 700 and put a good stock on it. Float it. Bed it.

I did this with a CDL. Already came with a decent stock. The rifle realy shot well without bedding and floating, but the thought of extreme changes in humidity and temperature we get in South Louisiana in short amount of time led me to do it.
The end result has not realy affected my groups either way with this rifle.
This wasn't the first rifle I bed and float, though.

Just be an NRA member and be in good standing and member at a range, fill out paperwork, and buy buy buy!

The M1 is a great piece of history. It's also a great performer, but it's a big heavy bastard and not very easy to mount a scope on. If you like open sights and/or nostalgia, you'll never be under-gunned with a garand. If you like not breaking a sweat when walking to your stand, there are much better options.

I do prefer iron sights to scopes. I also just found out that a guy where I work owns 3 M1's. Maybe he'll just sell me one and save me a trip to Ohio.

I shoot a Weatherby Vangaurd and it's the most accurate gun I've ever owned. Wood grain with stainless barrel and scope. Beautiful gun

Got a Winchester m70, pre 64 flavor. I looked at several, Remington's 700, other m70, new old used etc. but this one made my dick move when I handled it.

On a related note there is a 2 hour wait on background checks at cabelas.
And no .223 ammo or 9 mm, .22 is flying off the shelf. The employees have given up on putting ammo on the shelves there's just open boxes sitting on carts.

Pics later.

If say the remington browning and Winchester would all be completely reliable and more than likely at least as accurate as you are. It comes down to preferences with bolt rifles IMHO. They all make a pretty one if that's what your after. Remington 700 for me because the stock and trigger aren't factory and I figured I'd go that route.

Already has a scope, and by the looks of the scope it's the original, pre 64 as well.

Don't use stock '06 in a garand. Need to use the special made 30-06 garand ammo or old surplus. The pressures are different.

Buy a 700 instead.

In .308

edit: oh didnt see you made a purchase. Nice

Blaser R93 / R8 : I own the R93 Professional which has the synthetic stock and isn't nearly as expensive as the luxus wood model. I have a 7m08 & 270wsm set up. Very simple to change barrels and bolt head. It's a German rifle and one of the main reasons they designed the interchangeable caliber is due to the restrictions on the # of guns a person may own. Buy one gun and as many different caliber set ups barrels/bolt heads and it only counts as 1. The technology behind its bolt locking system is far superior to the traditional mauser style bolt action rifles. The straight pull allows for better follow up shots.

They're pricey but IMO worth the investment.

I have my Dad's pre-64 Winchester Mod.70 .30-06(greatest rifle ever) made in 1942(older than I am and I'm an old fart). My Dad also had a M1 Garrand my grandfather hunted with. My grandfather work at the Navy Ammo Dump at Seal Beach, Ca. We never and I mean never paid for ammo, but that was then and this is now.....
