A man that will argue/fight over a kill with a kid isn’t worth shite. Saw that happen twice with different people. Both times were uncles trying to claim a deer their nephews put killing shots on, but the uncle “finished them off”. Both men aren’t worth a shite in life either. One was a low 140’s 10 and the other was a 160” 11 point.

Un-dead deer are stronger than some think

Forgetting fish heads for a month in an ice chest will make you rethink priorities

Gravity wins every time. Wear your tree harness.

Drag that deer for that old man in camp. He was once man enough to take care of you.

Go out of your way to help your children enjoy the outdoors. Their first deer or turkey will make you happier than any you’ve taken before

When grabbing a frog, make sure it’s a frog

Make sure to put the plug in before boat goes in the water. Made that mistake the other day

--- The old man with the worn out gear will run circles around the Instagram Star with face stuff and a maxed out credit card

I used to see this all the time fishing Delacroix. The old guy with a 20 year old flat boat throwing plastics on the bottom and limiting out on trout .

People that take hunting or fishing too serious I have a hard time trusting. Those type people seem “off” even outside of the outdoors and many times are shady as hell

Repetition, practice, and hands on learning is the best way to learn anything. You can read all the books, take advice from everyone you know, or watch videos but the best learning is done by getting in the woods, trying new things and practicing.

Whether is a new skill or just observing wildlife you learn so much by just getting out there. This can be applied to anything else in life.

Also there is ALWAYS something new to learn and be teaching yourself.

Putting in the time. Trying to get in the 50” Snook club this rule is my only “must do”. I’m so damn close I know it’s coming. Staying positive is my second rule.

When forced to take a shite in the woods, always make sure your pants are tucked away from the drop zone...

You can tell a lot about a person when one lone duck is working into the dekes. If he shoots without warning he's an efficient arse. If he shoots it and then says take it he's a run of the mill arse. If he asks if you want to shoot it he is a blind mate.

Quantity of game taken isn't nearly as impressive nor as satisfying as the method which was used and the situation.

Being mildly successful outdoors on your own merit is infinitely more satisfying than being wildly successful depending on the knowledge and experience of others.

Performing you own maintenance and building stuff yourself when practical lends you a knowledge of your gear and equipment that you will never gain by writing a check. There will also come a time when that knowledge and experience is the difference between success and failure in the field.

Go. Get out of bed and just go already. You ain't got an infinite number of opening days and mid run fishing trips...and the finite number is getting smaller every second.

Don't spend time outdoors with people you don't like UNLESS they have access to areas you can't access on your own...and then only do it when absolutely necessary. Life is too short to spend time in a duck blind with someone you just don't like.

Be kind to young folks starting out....you don't ever know but they may become one of the best hunting / fishing partners you ever found.

Outdoor pursuits are like sex...you don't have to have the best gear and the most experience to have a helluva time, if you have the right attitude!

Folks will lie....not 'cause they're bad people but because they're people. Guides always caught fish last week and ducks always work the decoys when your buddies go and you can't. All of those triples and doubles on upland birds that were really singles when you shot them but were two or three straight singles in a row ain't really a lie...and your buddies know it!

If there ain't a picture it didn't happen.

the best habitat for game is in the mind of the person who harvested it...a deer never grew as fast in real life as it did within a year of it being shot. Fish are doubly successful.....

Amen...and pick up your damned hulls.

Folks won't even mention a nation that they've shot a limit of ducks in but they will leave the damned hulls lying on the ground....I can't count the number of good duck blinds and dove spots I have found on public land where the only indication that the spot might be productive were the number of spent hulls lying on the ground of floating in the water.

Same thing in the parking area....nothing speaks to the quality of the area than a bunch of dove wings and carcasses lying in the parking lot....and no, the coyotes WONT get them....the ants wont even get 'em...they'll be there for months indicating a great place to shoot dove to anyone looking for such a place....

Now I ain't above taking a couple hundred empty hulls and tossing them about a blind that don't produce shite to make others think its the X but if I actually shoot I pick the hull up!

I've been called a lot of bad things in my life, and most of them are at least partly true. However, I don't think anyone could honestly look at the floorboard or bed of my truck and call me a litterer.

When around the elders as a younger man or boy, don't until spoken to. You will learn more listening.

Always let someone know where you will be and what time they should start looking for you if you haven’t been heard from

I would change "force" to encourage.

If I tried to force my kids to do stuff, they'd shut down and likely would never consider it again.

You gotta know their personalities.

I have to echo the spend time with your dad and will throw in your siblings as well.
Plan trips and take them. You don't know when you or they won't be able to.

1. If you're able to, instead of riding an ATV, walk as much as you can in the woods. I've started walking exclusively the last 2 seasons and I've seen way more animals than ever before.

2. Bow hunting is hard.

3. The old man in camp that's sitting on the porch, peeling an apple with a worn out Case trapper, and eating slices right off the blade... Listen to any advice he gives.
