I've got my heart set on an LMT MWS Defender AR-10 but for obvious reasons I cannot find one anywhere. Same goes for trying to by a upper or lower separately.

There are a few on gunbroker, most of which appear are being sold by shops rather than private individuals, and I'm too impatient to wait for the 10-14 day auctions to close. Also, prices are nuts (I know this will be the case anywhere). I've bid on a few different ones but have been beat out for more than I want to spend right now.

This is my first AR purchase. I've got many other guns, just never an AR. Going with the .308 b/c I have a .308 deer rifle and have a suppressor which can I'll be using interchangeably. Also like the caliber and the ammo is pretty easy to find, even now.

Any other ideas as to where one can look? Anyone else been successful recently? Maybe i'll just have to be patient

That's a heavy rifle. Is the gas block adjustable? Have you thought about a Savage MSR-10 or a Springfield Saint Victor .308?

You're just going to have a very hard time finding anything right now at a reasonable price. That's the crazy market we live in. Just keeping looking until a deal comes along. That's what I did for my Savage MSR-10.

Yes it is heavy but from everything I've read it's a great rifle. It'll mainly be used for hog-hunting and will be tripod mounted.

You're going to have to educate me on the gas block. It doesn't appear to have a standard adjustable gas block.

I've not looked at the Savage or Springfield, i'll have to take a look. I get most of my info from a work buddy who owns just about every gun imaginable and does competitions. He knows more than i'll ever hope to learn, but he also has expensive taste and pretty high standards.

You've got expensive taste.

Hell, the British military uses those for their DMR rifles

LMT is a damn good company that makes good rifles.

It's preferable to have an adjustable gas block on a rifle you are going to shoot suppressed. Having it properly regulated keeps excessive gas from cycling through the system and allows it to run cleaner and more reliably. If it doesn't have an adjustable gas block, you can swap it out after you get it.

My thought is not to wait too long to find an AR-10. You never know what legislation will be coming down the pike in the next few weeks and months. You may pay a premium to buy now.

This is exactly why I'm scrambling now! I think i'm just going to have to over pay to get it before legislation shite hits the fan

Thanks for the feedback

If you want to buy new and willing to wait a few months, check out V1 Tactical. You can order full rifle or separate uppers. They allocations from LMT and you can select an allocation date when ordering.

MWS are overgassed and not great running suppressed. If you want to run suppressed, I suggest a custom gas tube BRT EZtune from Black River Tactical.

Since you are considering quality stuff, the only two things worth a damn mentioned in this thread are the LMT and Larue. If I was to get an AR10 it would be a Larue. My go to AR15 is a LMT. Both are great choices. Aero... ugh, their AR10 platform is troublesome and doesn't hold a candle to Larue/LMT

If you dont really want the quick change barrel, you can look at other guns.

Larue has been mentioned. Can look at PWS as well. They make a piston ar10 thats lighter than the LMT.

All the rifles mentioned are great. I would add SOLGW, BCM, JP, and ADM to the list to look at. At this point I would get anything you can find. It’s only gonna get more scarce.

I've been scouring the internet for a 5.56 LMT bolt carrier group, but those things are as vanished as Aero precison ar 15 lowers and Bcm bcgs. They're just not out there.

I did stumble upon a couple other great alternatives, though, including the Sharps BCG. Would a PSA premium probably be nearly just as good? Yeah probably, but who knows. BCGs from higher end manufacturers are just not out there right now and who knows when they'll be back in stock.
